Difference Between Each Of The Brause Rusticas

Hi everybody.

Hopefully a simple question for some of the experts beyond you, but I recently chose to try and get into Calligraphy and are looking at a bunch of Brause nibs which I quite fancy.

My question is regarding the "Rustica" nibs, because there is like a No. 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 but they all look the exact same except for the little number printed on them. Is there any difference between these, and if so which should I choose?

Many thanks,

Finn.

I think they're all left obliques, but the lower the number, the wider they are. So your choice of pen depends on what height of letter you want to make. If you want to start learning calligraphy, though, it seems like it would be better to start with "straight", unslanted italic pens in order to learn the classic letter forms.

Thank you very much for the swift reply. I think I might go with the No. 8 as their the most available to me.

I think I'm just stocking up for now, but thanks for the advice too, I'll have to look into those. Do you have any suggestions on any good ones I could use? I've already got a few G nibs.

Regards,

Finn.

I like the Brause Bandzug pens. They're well-made and have an ink reservoir.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just looked into it and found a cheap set of all the sizes.
