An Attractive Late 1930S Swan Leverless

Recommended Posts

I have just acquired this one. It came with a 1950s Swan nib (witht he Swan wrapped aorund the breather hole). I have installed the correct nib which I was fortunate to possess..

No model number of course. As may be seen, the cap has the late 1930s type clip arrangement with the BHR ring and the little Swan emblem embedded, found on L212/60, L445/60. L645/60, 0160/1060/2060 amongst others, and some of the Snakeskin and Lizard skin models.

Love that band. Great way to dress up a black pen. And the fancy nib helps as well.

Nice find.

Yes thanks Greenie. Those bands were often used on Visofils as I am sure you know. I have also had a small No 1 Leverless with the same band. I cannot remember if I have seen a Snakeskin or Lizard skin fitted with one.

Visofil VT would be the classic place for this band. Shall we call it the Lattice Band? I am open....

I posted previously about the small leverless pens I have with interesting bands, one classic Visofil "lattice" pattern, and on a row of X's with a separate thin band on either side. But these do not have the metal swan medallion in the cap. And the knob is much wider/flatter n the end, like the early flat top leverless pens. They seem like earlier leverless pens. I fugured that they were dressing up the small pens, or making them fancier as Ladies' pens.

I believe I saw your black Lattice band pen on ebay and got spooked that it was a marriage of a leverless body and visofil cap. But now that I see that cap medallion, the pen clearly goes together.

I do have this pen however.

That one's a real beauty Greenie; I cannot remember ever seeing another.

By coincidence (having a client who wants one) I have bought this Visofil - a small No 1 clipless model; I cannot remember ever seeing this material on a Swan - it looks Blackbird to me.
