February: Hangin' In The Shade - 2018 Monthly Ink Combo Project

It's been a busy month for me... so while I wrote up my choice early in the month I'm only now getting around to uploading and posting a scan.

I'm afraid I've cheated a little bit on the challenge: I'm using different concentrations of only one ink.

You can see in the scan that they are similar but I think they're different enough to explore this aspect of dilution.

All of the inks above are different concentrations of Blackstone Sydney Harbour Blue, in different pens as well.

I really like this ink, and what it allows me to do with it; it feels like a different ink when I add some water to it, for example showing more dramatic shading, but I also like it in its more concentrated form.

I tend to like my pens wet, but even so, on this - my favorite paper, Tomoe River 52 gsm I see plenty of shading, especially with the lower concentration.

I also learned that while the shading is an extra interest for an ink, it's not quite the attention getter, for me, that it used to be when I first explored it. I want my inks dark, wet, and - well - generally, blue-leaning. Every excursion into other colors eventually brings me back to some shade of blue...

In hindsight I should've tested how well the shading showed up with a glass nib before choosing my inks... Adzukiiro shades really well for me in italics, but was pretty underwhelming with the glass pen.The other two worked decently enough. fpn_1528094786__february.jpg

Some nice entries and cool inks in these last posts

I particularly like Yu Yake, DA Pearl Violet, Apache Sunset and Azuki Iro.

'Azuki iro' doesn't only look nice, but also seems to deliver exactly what it says to be; 'colour of red beans' - notable enough as ink names are often more a thing of marketing.

Yes, Adzukiiro is quite aptly named. Papier Plume's Red Beans and Rice ink is likewise accurately named--a touch lighter and a smidgen less purple, but unmistakably the color of red beans. Perhaps red beans and inks were just meant to be mixed.
