Another Diy Wooden Pen Case

I found this artist's case for paints, brushes and other materials in a Japanese surplus store, and decided to convert it into another case for pens.

Some of you will recall that I turned a similar case (a larger one) into a case for pens five years ago:

This was the case I used this time--older and narrower:

Got some help from a handyman who varnished the case and installed the dividers (leftovers from a previous project, so they weren't tall enough to go all the way to the top, but they do the job).

Lovely!

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

All those pens and only two inks.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Many thanks! ^These were meant to carry pens, and the ink in the bigger case was a fortunate afterthought to make use of the extra space. As you can imagine, I have tons of ink on shelves at home, but really need only one bottle (the other bottle is for clean, clear water) on the road. I bring the bigger box to meetings of our pen club and just need the ink to dip into for testing nibs.

Very nice. I have looked at boxes like these at places like Hobby Lobby or Michael's here in the US. Problem is, they are usually full of art supplies.....

Or else they're small and the quality is poor. :(

I have a question for you, pen manilla -- it looks as if the elastic bands have a way to unhook them on one side? Or am I mis-seeing it?

hi, ruth--the elastic bands are stapled (with an industrial-grade gun tacker) on both ends, and once in the middle. i had to use two bands with the new box because just one band couldn't carry the weight of the big pens and they sagged and moved around when transported (not a problem with the first box, to my consternation).

... and yes, they're meant for art supplies, but i've been lucky to find and to buy them empty. i would've wanted to do a couple more, but they're out of stock here in manila. i got the second box (an antique from the '60s or '50s, i imagine) from a resale shop.
