A Possible (Probable) 144 Fake

Hello

I am new to this forum and a new user to fountain pens...

I have this pen which I assume is a fake Montblanc 144 unless the more knowledgeable members of this forum may think it is possible authentic.

I would appreciate any thoughts, opinions based on the pictures I have attached

Even if it is a fake am I correct in the model number?

Thank you

Do the flashlight test and see if you see red.

Does a magnet stick to the nib? If it does, you have a fake.

Looking at the photos I am thinking this might be a genuine Meisterstück 144.

well magnet does NOT stick to nib........Not sure what light test is........What I found confusing is all the various descriptions in forums and utube on whats a fake or not

There is a serial number on cap band as well as word Germany I thought its suppose to say "pix" inside the clip but it does not appear to be there

The cap is not a screw on type

Looks legit to me. The cap on a 144 is a snap cap. The light test is you shine a light up in the cap and it should appear reddish in color on the outside (doesn't always seem to work depending on the light you have to shine in the cap.)

Looks good to me. The light test is worthless and I don't know why people still keep pushing it. I have a fake 145 (I bought it from a dealer in China for around $12) and it passes the light test with flying colours, as do several non MB pens I own, Can we just put that myth to bed? The magnet test to the nib is far more accurate, although not 100%.

The fakes don't usually have a feed like yours, which is an early 144 feed. So, that's good news.

Have you googled your serial number? If it comes up with a lot of other MB pens with the same number, that would be bad.

Otherwise, from what we can see, it looks good. Enjoy using it and welcome to FPN.

Fakes never have an early feed that is anything like the OP's. That's what makes it authentic. :D

Thank you all for your opinions.....If I told you I actually found this in the trash (some one had been tossing out some old pens and pencils)

I pulled the cap off expecting it to be a cheap ball point and was surprised at the fountain pen.....Was not sure at that time about Montblanc so I filled it and tried it.

I Googled it and I just expected it to be a fake (I mean who throws out a Montblanc)

I may not be going back to ball points for a while :D :D

Now, that is my kind of "trash" . Lucky you!

It's a wonderful pen and I hope it's the beginning of a long and happy addiction to journey through FPs!

Welcome to FPN.

Just so you know, it was a MB 144 that started me down the rabbit hole. Now a few hundred pens later, I am still obsessed. Great find and good luck!

May we live, not by our fears but by our hopes; not by our words but by our deeds; not by our disappointments but by our dreams.

Looks like you scored a great find.

The red test on a real Montblanc post-141133-0-60816500-1516573755_thumb.jpegpost-141133-0-08560800-1516573773_thumb.jpeg

While there are many levels of forgeries this along with magnet test and a few others are easy enough to do. Fake Montblanc post-141133-0-52328900-1516574119_thumb.jpegpost-141133-0-31210500-1516574140_thumb.jpeg and using a very powerful magnet on my fake shows bearly any magnetism. Had I used a household weaker magnet you would not have gotten a result. Course the real one shows no magnetism.

If there is a forgery that beats all the little tests and it was $12 well then if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.......
