Should The Parker 51 Sac Guard Be Sealed?

I'm putting together an aerometric Parker 51 on which I replaced the pli-glass sac and the breather tube. The sac guard is one of the early aerometric models (maybe the chrome plated one) and can be screwed off easily. Should I seal it with shellac? Or something? Or just leave it as it is, to make it easier to repair next time?

There wasn't anything to seal, and Parker didn't use anything as a thread lock compound when they put them on in the first place. The threaded press 6 times sac guards are already challenging enough to remove because in most cases there is corrosion on the threads of the sac guard without adding shellac to make getting it off again even more fun. I go the opposite direction. I clean off what corrosion I can without being too invasive, then put a light coating of silicone grease on the threads to help limit further corrosion.

Thank you Ron, silicone grease does sound like the right thing to do.

 

The reason I asked is because I have a later aerometric model as well, which has the stainless steel sac guard. I haven't taken apart that one yet, but thatsac guard definitely did not screw off when I tried (so I left it alone for now). That is why I wondered if it should be sealed somehow.

I have seen some Parker 51 sac guard screwed on section...no friction fit.. I mean..it is not very easy to find it and no idea when was produced.. :unsure:

The early aerometrics had the "press 6 times" fillers which were plated aluminum, and screwed onto the connector bushing. It didn't take Parker long (a year or so) to switch over to the "press 4 times" stainless steel sac guard that was a slip fit onto the connector bushing. This was the design used in one form or another through to the end of production.

Ahhh! I didn't realize that the newer "4 times" version is slip fit. I didn't really try to remove it.

The one I talked about earlier is the chrome(?)-plated aluminium version which is screw fit.

Don't use any kind of adhesive on the threaded press 6 time sac guard. Just thread it in on the connector and you are done.
