The old birds have returned to roost! Having spent several months at Rick Propas place, they have returned rejunivated and restored and brought a buddy. According to Mr. Propas, what I sent him were a 400NN from either 1957 or 1959-63. Also a 100N from 1940 and a 100 with smooth turning knob with a CN nib from 1939, as well as a 100 with milled turning knob from 1935-37. The birdies brought a 400 tourtise from the 50s that they had befriended.

I made the mistake last year of taking the class on collecting early Pelikans from Rick Propas and Janet Wright. And now I very badly want one. Just can't afford one.... :(

Why are all my really expensive pens Pelikans?

BillH, is your M760 a 150th Jubilee version, or are all 760s Jubilee versions? I was so taken with yours that I bought a NOS 760 150th Jubilee version. Waiting for it to arrive from Germany. The 750/760 are M600 sized which is my favorite size.

Hi Claud. Mine has 1838-1988 engraved on the bottom ring of the cap, and a serial number on the bottom of the barrel close to the piston knob. My understanding is that they do not all have those engravings but that they are all Jubilee pens. If that is incorrect I'm sure someone will let us know.

What nib did you get on yours?

Nice! I found one with an OBB... yes, a great signature pen. Enjoy!

I have a bid in on a MB 344G on Ebay that was a Bayer Munich signature pen. Closes later today. I seem to remember you like your MBs too. My collection is only MB, Pelikan and Pilot, Sailor and Platinum. Not so many of the Japanese pens, but they are nice and novel writing pens too.

The largest focus of my collection is Pelikan, all varieties. Montblanc is the other focus, mostly WE's and 146's. I do have Sheaffers (mostly school pens, NoNo's, and a few vintage) and Parkers (51's, 45's, and some vacs). Lots of ones and twos of other brands, just to "try them out"...

Pen collecting is a black hole endlessly fascinating, variable, and financially challenging. B)

I have had my Pelikan M620 La Grande Place for a number of years. I have liked the material a lot, except for the plasticy piston knob. When Pelikan released the M800 in the same material and with a black piston knob, I knew I wanted it. This edition was well-received and became somewhat scarce rather quickly. Moreover, the price stayed up, and I hesitated.

At the San Francisco Pen Show last week, I saw one on Sarj Minhas' table, and his asking price, while not low, was lower than what i had been seeing. I hesitated ... for a few seconds ... and bought it.

Sarj was able to swap in a Broad nib, and I was fortunate enough to catch Dan Smith when he had a rare no-show for nib work. Dan ground the nib to a wonderful crisp cursive italic, just the way I like it. And this was the first nib he had every ground for me. The text in the photo was written with the M800's #nibsmith - ground nib.

David, that nib is wonderful, and your story is great. Congrats! I love that 800 too, but mine is lacking the special nib yours has...

Lovely pens and nib.

You found the pen and a nibmeister at the same venue, the stars truly favored you.

I missed out on the M800, hence waiting on a M1000 version. One can always dream... ;)

Hi all,

This one is new for me.

A lovely 1950ish tortoise Pelikan 400.

It is in overall very good condition.

I love the color.

I only had to pay 10 Euros for it...

Regards,

daffie
