Adding To The Flock -2018

Just ordered an M815 Metal Striped SE with B nib from Niche Pens, after a bit of a wait for stock to arrive... strange since US and European sellers had them already! But it proved worth the wait.

Originally advertised at £495.00, but when I got the “it’s in stock” email it was only £475.00, a net reduction even after paying the modest P&P.

Take off the VAT and it's a bargain. Given the state of the A$ (<US$0.73) it's the best price I've seen at around A$730, depending how much of a cut the bank adds for the currency conversion.

I was previously looking at well over A$800 and sweating!

Glenn.

Nice! Just musing - how about if they didn't palladium-coat the brass strips, and put them in a brown tortoise ..... the patina might look rather good ....

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

What an interesting thought! I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Last month I received my first Pelikan in at least seven years, an M400 White Tortoise (I'll update this thread with links to pictures in a bit) with a IB nib, it was tuned by John Mottishaw, and it's already my favorite pen after a month of use. I can't believe after my old Pelikan M400 was stolen I didn't immediately go and buy a new one, I missed the feel of these exquisite pens, more than I realized. I've already written through two fills since the beginning of June, and that's with roughly 15 other pens inked at the same time (I do a lot of writing).

This month I have finalized the payment on a preordered M815 Metal Stripe, from Dan Smith, I am having its broad nib ground to a cursive italic and hope to see the pen by the end of the week, if not, early next week. With my large hands I am excited for my first M8xx series Pelikan. I also have had my eyes on a beautiful bird that I know can be a little bit of a love it or hate it Pelikan among the community, but I think I am in the love it camp. That would be the M605 White Transparent, or Ghost, which is coming to me with a fine nib by the week's end from another user who never got around to filling it. I can't wait to fill it with Pilot Iroshizuku Tsukushi!

As I said, I'll update with pictures as I get the new pens, and some uploaded. :)

And it is here already... very smart looking, puts me in mind of the stereotypical city gent, bowler hat, umbrella and pin-stripe suit.

That said, the box is a bit ordinary, with a cardboard cut-out to locate the pen (which consequently came loose in transit), and no faux leather case, not that I use them!

I got my first Pelikan a few weeks back. A red M205 via ebay (appears to be circa 2009?). It is my 2nd broad nib (I have a Pilot VP nib in broad) and surprisingly, I don't find it so broad at all!

I'm now tempted to get an M6xx. Though with a gold nib, I may size down to a medium based on some writing samples, etc. that I have seen.

My M201 is an M nib. It is closer to the medium of the Bic/Biro pens that I grew up with in the '80's. My M600 M is wider than the M201.

Howdy - I've been away from FPN for what seems like forever. After not buying any new pens for a LOOOOONG time (years, though it's not like I didn't have a lot already, I suppose), thought I'd share my delight at my recent acquisition of:

A green-striped Pelikan 300 from Gary Lehrer (I have what may be an unreasonable adoration for 300s and 140s and was on Gary's list for any 300s - yay!)

And THEN, I was looking at some updated info on the 300 online, and discovered that the new 120 releases (the green/black and the iconic blue) actually have nearly the same dimensions as the old rare 300s. So I got one of each.

Very happy with these additions. :D

(Now if I could just find a 140 Continental...)

It took me awhile to warm up to the M815 Metal Striped... but I finally did and with some serious arm twisting by my friend in Mosquitoville, I went ahead and ordered one. It came this afternoon and I must say, it's much more impressive in the hand than in the photos! Love the weight. Love the metal stripes. Love the ink window.

I looked at my inventory program and discovered I had no M8xx mono-toned EF nib, so this one filled that need too.

If I didn't have so many inked pens right now I would have it done by now. What to choose? Not a fan of blacks, although Brilliant Black would be an obvious choice. Edelstein Tanzanite perhaps? Yes, I think that'll be the first one to try.

:lticaptd:

Congrats on the new pen, BillH.

The M815 is gorgeous, isn't it?

I also didn't warm up to it initially and bought it just for the sake of the collection. But, when it arrived... My, oh my! Impressive!

I'm also thinking of Tanzanite for it, particularly because I coincidently received a courtesy bottle, directly from mama Pelikan, at the same time that I received the M815 ;) .

Added an M605 dark blue to my M205 red.

Oh, love that shot!

Congrats on the dark blue. :puddle: :puddle:

It is a nice pen. A great addition to any collection. I am holding out for a M1000 version.

With Pelikan, their F and EF nibs are similar-ish. How fine is your EF?

I agree, Pelikan EFs aren't as fine as they could be. Here is a comparison showing the last 3 pens.

@ BillH

Thank you for the pic. The pens are lovely.

As suspected; I can't tell the difference between the F and EF, can you?

OTOH, no need to pay the EF premium, get the F. :D

If Pelikan are going to charge a premium for the EF, the least they can do is make a real effort in the QC department.

Illogical at best, indifferent at worst.

Here's a picture of my Pelikan Flock.

Which shall I add next? Maybe a grey striped Stresemann? Or the all white M605?

I have one Pelikan EF. It came in a dark blue M605. It is as fine as my Sailor Pro Gear Slim. There is no confusion between this Pelikan EF and any F nib. It is tiny. Not being a great fan of EF nibs, I promptly switched it for a lovely Pendleton Brown italic. Not having a Sailor nib to switch with, I use that EF for notes needed in otherwise inaccessible places.

I added the M815 and, since it is often compared to the M805 Stresemann, I thought of taking a couple of quick cell phone shots of the M815 and Stresemann side by side.
