i'm thrilled with not only my first vintage Pelikan but also my first non-standard nib: a Pelikan 400 (1951-1954), bought from a fine fpn member, with a wonderful OB nib. This pen is immediately a favourite of my small but fast-growing collection.

The pen is currently filled with Diamine Salamander, written in a Darkstar Collection notebook.

I am very excited. My wife just ordered me an M805 Ocean Swirl from Nibsmith for my birthday in EF (last one!). Such a great wife! It's too bad my birthday isn't until June :bawl: . At least that gives me plenty of time to choose a first Ink!

It'll be my first Pelikan. What Ink should I try first? I think Sailor Jentle Yama Dori might be in the lead.

Pelikan 100N with CN nib. The nib is marked "T" - I have no idea what it means but the nib seems to be a stubbish broad. It needed a replacement piston rod with a seal, today I used spare Pelikan 120 parts and the pen is finally ready to be used.

Vibrant Green M600. Bought on Ebay w/o a nib. I have a few extra M200, 600 and 800 nibs.

I like Pelikan inks in my Pelikan pens.

You might be right, Topaz looks gorgeous though Aquamarine may be a better fit for the pen. I may need to order some samples...

Generically speaking, Pelikan tend to be wet writers and Sailor tends to be a wet ink. At least my Oku Yama is wet. I like the Oku Yama in my M150 with a 1.0 nib, but it is wet and requires good paper. Cheap copy paper just bleeds and feathers.

I pretty much only write on good paper. The only Pelikan Inks I have tried was 4001 Royal Blue, and found it appalling. One of the most generic blues I've ever seen, but I did use a drier pen. Looked OK in the pooled areas but every place else put me to sleep. I dumped it. The Edelstein series thankfully does not look boring at all.

Beautiful flocks :) I syill think no Prlikan can beat their granddad which is Pelikan 100. The best Pel I've ever used and one of the best pens.

Excellent! I have some nibs floating around, too, and considered buying a Vibrant Green without a nib, but the color just isn't right for me.

I'm tempted to get a no-nib 600 in red-stripe, but the price is a little high at the moment...

I use Aquamarine in mine and, IMO, it is a perfect fit.

I put my most lubricating and wet inks in pelikans. Gushers are nice. Try some sailor or iroshizuku if you can live with the extreme wetness.

That's a very beautiful pen ! I think an Iroshizuku Kon-Peki will be great for your first ink in this pen. Enjoy it !!

Aquamarine in mine as well. I agree, it's a perfect fit. Although, somebody mentioned Kon-Peki and I may have to give that a go when this fill runs out.

Well, I've gotten in the Pelikan game with my first and am trying to determine what I think about it. The nib is insanely wet, as expected, but unfortunately sang loudly when writing and had some significant burrs. I think I now have that mostly cleaned up so am trying to enjoy.

Sorry, missed this post. I got mine last month on 23rd. Didn't like it so I sold it last week, uninked. Hope you like yours. :)

I was actually debating between Aquamarine and Kon-Peki. But, after reading what some repair people say about the effects of using Japanese inks in non-Japanese pens, decided to go with Edelstein. But, I still may try it.

Hi,

I'm relatively new to the forum, but I suppose this is the one place to show off my new-old Pelikan :P

AFAIK this is the Pelikan 400N with a strange nib. Does anybody know, if this nib is stock 400N nib or it was installed later?

Thanks,
M
