Vintage Yard O Led Viceroy Ink Converter Size ?

Can anyone help ? I have recently purchased a Yard O Led Viceroy vintage fountain pen. The trouble is standard size ink converters are to wide for the barrel so do not fit. I contacted Yard o Led in Birmingham, informed them the pen was an earlier vintage pen & they were really helpful & sent 2 ink converters , however these also do not fit ! Does anyone know of a converter to fit this . Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Maybe you have a cartridge only pen. Can you pls post a pic of your pen? The model vintage does not ring a bell.

Hari is right -- if it's a pocket size pen, it may not take converters, only mini-cartridges. I'm not sure, but I think modern Y-o-L pens take International standard carts and converters -- but only on the Standard and Grand sizes.

Is there any sort of date code or other markings that you can tell the company, so they can look it up in their files? I've heard that their customer service is usually really good. At the very least, they may be able to tell you how old the pen is.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

My Yard o Led Grand Emperor takes a waterman converter. And yes it took a while to get the right one. As far as I am aware there are 2 versions of waterman converters, so get the right one. Sleeve internal diameter is around 6 mm.

Thanks for the reply. When I stated vintage I should have said an older Viceroy model . The top of the clip has the serial number 5722. I have now attached a photo which may help. Thanks.

You could try a converter for a Caran d'Ache Ecridor. They're a little narrower than the international standard.

Looks like a std barley but slightly different.

The yol converter fits the section(black part with nib) properly? But the converter does not enter the barrel fully? Is that the problem?

Can you shine a torch into the barrel to see if there is an old cartridge still stuck inside the barrel perhaps.

I was looking for a Viceroy Standard converter, but on the YoL website they don't seem to stock them, which is odd as they seem to sell them new with converters.

Did you manage to sort out the right converter? As with benslot I finally found that a simple Waterman's cartridge fitted the Viceroy Barley, so their standard converter would also fit. As Hari says, it almost looks like a standard Viceroy. How old is it? You can easily work out the year from the hallmark.

Hi. Your pen dates from around 1988. these nib units had a green coloured converter. the modern black ones are slightly bigger.

Ask YOL if they have any green converters lying around . the nib unit could be damaged . Look inside to see if its damaged .If so it will need replacing. Send it in for a service if all else fails.

Best wishes

I guess Schmidt K2 might fit since it is slimmer. The original green were the same as for the 2nd generation of CdA Madison and I believe they were made by Schmidt.

Btw is there any better option for Viceroy Grand than Schmidt K5 (or any of the rebranded versions)?

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

I do not know the answer to the original question. My Yard-o-Led pen is circa 2005. Its converter is original. The modern Schmidt K5 converter also fits my pen. My Yard-o-Led converter appears to have an extra metal piece on the outside of the plastic end that rotates. I understand that the Schmidt K5 converter would be too wide for narrow pens.
