Conid - Burping With And Without The Caiso?

Have you contacted CONID or Francis in the forums? I've read of them working with owners to fix their pens.

No, I have not spoken to anyone about the issue. I was looking at purchasing another Kingsize non CAISO and was going to mention it then.

I look forward to seeing if my Kingsize burps. Unfortunately, I'm waiting. I knew there would be a wait. The wait quoted was well within the wait I expected. I have no concern that it will be delayed past the estimated ship date. But waiting is still hard!

I have a Minimalisitca that writes flawlessly, however, I also have a CAISO Kingsize FPR 16/60 that burps ink consistently. In fact it burps up so often that I have stopped using the pen. It appears that the feed becomes so saturated with ink that it just spits it off the end of the feed. I have taken it apart thinking that perhaps there was a leak or a crack somewhere, but I found nothing. The best that I can tell is that when the cap is off and I am writing, the free flow of ink simply overwhelms the feed and it just drips on to the page. Such a shame as I really love this pen. It is the perfect pen, but because of the burping, I don't use it anymore.

does it do this even with the tail knob closed fully tight? can you check and revert?

do contact Francis for help. his FPN name is fountainbel.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

Yes, I have the knob fully closed and snug. I can actually see as the feed becomes over saturated. After writing a sentence, I always check the feed and I have been able to blot the drop of ink that inevitably forms on the end of the feed. It actually reminds my of a runny nose. I dab the feed when I write longer passages. Frustrating really. No I have not mentioned it to Francis yet.

OK,. so that eliminates the rear portion of the pen as the culprit.

Likely culprit is the nib unit or the section to barrel joint or a loose nib and feed in the nib housing.

The last can be resolved by pushing the nib and feed into the pen with fingers.

Hmmm interesting problem. I don't have such a serious problem but I have the latest Minimalistica from Fontoplumo and the feed is always saturated and the pen writes VERY wet without the need to unscrew the end knob.

I also have the Minimalistica and I have no issues with it at. It is just my CAISO Kingsize that drips ink.

I disassembled the pen to inspect the feed, nib and housing for cracks, misalignments or other issues. I did not find any. I did spend a bit more time ensuring everything was put back together with a bit more force to ensure a proper fit/seal. I have been testing the pen this afternoon, and so far no issues. I will keep at it to see if the dripping has been resolved.

This is just a quick update on my CAISO ink burping issue. Francis and the very good folks at Conid reached out to me to see if they could help resolve my issue. They believe the problem could be with the nib housing. As it turns out, there are differences when it comes to measuring, sizing and cutting titanium vs gold nibs, so because of this, they decided to make dedicated housings for each nib. Since I have a titanium nib they asked that I look for K-TI etched on the housing. This would indicate I had an updated housing. As it turns out, my CAISO was manufactured in early 2017 so I had the old original housing. The folks at Conid were happy to hear this and told me that they would send me a new updated housing in the mail that day.

They also asked that once I install the new housing to keep them appraised of the results. I was very happy to hear this indeed.

Every time someone asks if a particular fountain pen is really worth the amount of money they are asking, they rarely factor in the price of stellar customer care or support. You cannot put a price on the support and care you get from the amazing folks at Conid. So a very big thank you to the Conid team. Because of your attention to detail and your support, I will always be a Conid customer.

Once I install the new housing and give it a good test run, I will update this post with the results. Also a big thank you to the folks who responded to my initial post.

This makes sense. I have both gold and titanium Bock #8 nibs and there is very slight difference in the thickness of the alloys.

I've never had an issue with them --perhaps because I've made a point of keeping the feeds/units and nibs mated as it's simply harder to get a titanium nib into a unit designed for gold.

+1. I placed an order with Conid a few weeks ago and got exceptionally quick responses to my endless questions. Happy to say they've won my business going forward.

Truly a great team. As an update to my last update, I received the new section in the mail, but I was having difficulties trying to install it. I just could not make it work. I ended up bending the nib terribly as I became frustrated. I sent the Conid team an email informing them that I would be sending them the nib for repair and if they would be so kind as to install the nib and feed into the news section, since I clearly lacked the skills and/or dexterity to install something as simple as a nib and feed. And to my everlasting gratitude, they responded that there was no need to send them the nib for repair, they would simply mail me a new nib and feed already installed on the new section. I just needed to screw it into the barrel. They asked that I return the damaged nib in the same packaging so that Johan, who is always looking for a challenge, can work on repairing the nib. Conid is amazing.

VR139C thank you for sharing this. Your inspiring story confirms that I am definitely making the right descision in what is for me, a significant purchase. I will be ordering in a few weeks and look forward to receiving Minimalistica in June.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Four CONID pens; one FPN Blue Pearl, one Kingsize CAISO, one Regular, one Slimline.

I have had some leakage into the cap with the CAISO, but I discovered it's because the feed holds a ton of ink, and it can splash into the cap when closed and in transit.

My Caiso’s feed also held too much ink. Ink was visible between the fins, and the ink stopped at the outer edge of the fins. I did not want to be the first to report this finding.

I already had a spare nib and feed unit for my Caiso. I modified the Caiso’s feed. My modifications changed the feed from Caiso to non-Caiso. My modified pen works perfectly. It never gets ink inside the cap, never drips, never blobs, and is now my favourite daily user.

My experiments are rarely this successful, therefore I was pleasantly surprised by the result. Nevertheless I understand that changes to the feed should be done by Conid, not by the pen’s owner.
