The initial majuscule in the second quotation is in the obscure French script, "Saucisson," a variation of the porcine script, "Charcuterie."

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is I had it for dinner tonight.

 

 

 

The bad news is there is no more of it to see at this point.

Apologies, I should have specified that this is faux calligraphy, since my calligraphy exercise looked too pitiful to be scanned. :sick:

Copperplate (English Roundhand) written with a Brause Rose nib , in the style of Spencerian Ladies' Hand.

Well, RoyalBlueNotebooks, I'm going to refer you to Bobje's heading: "We're all bozos on this bus." So what's the difference between Ken Fraser's work and the rest of us? Talent, practice, and effort. So you are doing well and your handwriting shows your effort, too. That is what this forum is all about. Keep up the good work.

Here's an attempt at italic.

Pen used is a Wing Sung 3008 fitted with a Lamy 1.5mm stub nib.

Ink used is J. Herbin 1670 Anniversary Rouge Hematite

Paper used is Clairefontaine 90g/m.

Andrew, you just have entirely too much time on your hands. You put it to good use, though.

 

RoyalBlueNotebooks, good attempt at Italic hand. You have some of the form but are missing the spirit and flow of italic. Lovely writing. Recommend checking out a few tutorials on italic and looking at the hand from the point of view of the rhythm involved in the hand. Makes a world of difference in how the script flows. Italic is a fast hand, written quickly. Not meant to be perfect but to communicate a message in a rapid, daily handwriting. By mid-April, I will be back at my home desk and will write a few lines, post it for you. With some notes on italic. I love your choice of pen and ink. The Wing Sung 3008 does very well and for very little money. The J. Herbin 1670 special edition inks are interesting and a great lot of fun to write with. PS: A hint, italic is a slanted, angular hand. The "a" and the "o" are triangular, oval. Not round. Call up "italic handwriting images" in google search and look at the examples.

Thank you. I've tried my hand at italic, but not in a studious way, and not with enough basic practice underneath, especially compared to Copperplate. It would be great to see some more handwritten examples, and know more about it in general, as you did while you explained its rapid nature.

Quick break in the middle of something else, proving the adage, I'm afraid!

Cameron eyedropper ('J-Pen'), approx 1910 with vintage Stephens Red (unfortunately mixed with a little Diamine Red Dragon that was left in the feed!), and Watermans 352 Dauntless (maybe! And maybe mid '40s) with an older FDW Ideal extra fine razor of a nib which actually has quite good flex, but I'm practising italic with fine monolines at the moment.

 

Happy Easter to everyone, have a good April Fools and probably even Happy New Year for me on this thread...?! :D
