Qotw - 2018

Recommended Posts

Please do join me for the 2018 edition of the weekly quote writing. I have not been good in 2017 but hope to participate regularly this year.

Rules:

- Week begins on Monday.

- The first person to post a picture will choose the quotation for the following week. Please try to post your selection on Monday.

- Kindly choose quotations of a general nature and not too political, religious, inflammatory etc.

Since, we are already in the middle of the first week, I will take the liberty to start off with this quote from an Indiana Jones movie I wrote last month and shared on my Instagram feed.

Pen: Dollar pen with an FPR 1.0mm nib modified to write a sharper line.

Ink: Astorquiza Rot (a Bauer Inks exclusive)

It's David's pick of quote this week, but I'll post this anyway.

I'm not going to be able to post anything until next week. Can I have a rain check?

Ken - Beautiful rendition. Question - is it an illusion or does that hand really have a left lean to it?

Brad:

Yes, this Uncial script slopes to the left. I just did this as an experiment/fun but I have to admit that I'm not a fan of this effect. Our writing is from left to right and the slope seems natural going forwards in the same direction. In fact with normal handwriting the slope increases naturally as the speed of the writing increases.

Backwards writing seems to me to be "swimming against the tide" and usually destroys the integrity of otherwise beautiful lettering. Thank you for the compliment, but I think that it looks dreadful :(

,

I agree it doesn't look what I would call natural. But I know the eye can play tricks on us sometimes too. Hence the question. So few hands do have a left/opposite lean to them. At least in the world of writing left to right....

I like your description of "swimming against the tide". It isn't my favorite hand, but it does catch your attention, so I guess it has its purposes.
