Hello @siamackz, I was wondering if you could help me with smoothing the nib of my Mont Blanc Meisterstück ‘Hommage à Frédéric Chopin’, as I have always found it scratchy to write with.

I don’t know if it’s possible, but could the nib be reground in order to make it finer? I assume you would be in a better position to comment upon sight of the pen.

I eagerly await your reply

- Ian

Dear Ian, I live in India and suspect shipping to and fro will be more expensive than having a pro repair it for you. I suggest you view some YouTube videos on the topic before attempting it yourself - there are many many resources on this topic. Smoothening jobs to your liking might be a DIY skill worth building if you intend on collecting and enjoying fountain pens IMHO.

Here’s a 100 yr old Dunn Pen that I just restored…

And here’s another one I just repaired - a large one. Same process though.880054DF-C58F-4E0A-91C3-397E6146E285.thumb.jpeg.cafc57d4d82c75c8d5dbf48ad2cfd776.jpeg00FDAC5B-60FB-4BCF-BCEB-D20202CCE085.thumb.jpeg.fd60e8b198dc1f2b3308ff4beeb7d901.jpeg

Great work!  Are you still accepting pens for restoration?  I have a Parker Vacumatic that needs a sack and adjustment.  I normally do my own work, but I have never done a Vacumatic, I don’t even attempt adjusting tines.

Hi, I’d be happy to if you’re based in India, otherwise I suspect that the shipping charges to India will be more than having it professionally restored in your country. Also, if you have been doing your own work, a Vac is a good next step. Little tricky to get that filler out the back (at times) but there are so many online resources to help you troubleshoot. Might be worth attempting :)

Have you ever made, or adapted a nib to fit in a pen that it wasn't meant for?

I've been a fan of yours for a long time! You do excellent work sir !

Thank you! I’ve only tried this with a Zebra G nib and a large ebonite pen. I think I was lucky that it worked :) This was a long time ago. I haven’t tried such a thing since.

I have an old Senator piston filler without a blind cap or nib. I also have an old 14k nib that can perhaps be adapted to it.

If this is the Senator President, there is a 6.5 feed, so you can adapt any #6 sized nib. If this is another Senator, then need measurements.

ps: I wrote you a PM a week ago, but you obviously don't check your mail.

Hi Andrew! I actually did read your pm, but didn't reply. Sorry.

I have swapped out a lot of nibs without actually adapting them.

As for the Senator, I've had it for years and the nib has been a stumbling block.

I will continue this in the repair forum with photos so you can see it.

I do read my mails, but my life is a whirlwind and I don't always remember to reply. Thanks for reminding me.

Doug

@siamackz you must live a thousand years cos there'll be millions of fountain pen users needing your generosity to help them restore something of sentimental value. Amazing works...
