A treasure does not need to be gold, silver, or covered in gems to be precious. I am glad to hear it brings a beloved pen back to life. Congratulations.

Thank you, zaddick. Wise words.

(And thanks to all the members who PM'ed me offering me their skeletons, but I'm keeping the barrel.) (Ha!)

Enjoy.

Thanks to forum member fountainpencrazy for two awesome pens this last week. This 149 arrived today and Im quite happy with it. Writes smooth and quite wet with DeAtrementis Alexander Hamilton ink. Lovely looking pen with all gold nib.

Sorry for sideways picture. Cant rotate it on here :/

An early '70's 149, somewhere in the postalsphere. And, hopefully arriving tomorrow, a copy of

COLLECTIBLE STARS - The ultimate reference book for Montblanc pens & pencils from 1946 - 1979.

Hello Bill, could you provide a link as to where you purchased the book? I tried using the old style website run by the author but can't seem to purchase the book as it won't allow a delivery to Australia.

Thanks, Bill, I've been searching for this book and your link was a great help!

Oh good. Just remember that this is the shorter version that doesn't go back to the beginning of time, it is postwar only (which was all I wanted for now).

Purchased three Mark Twain WE pens this week, FP, BP and RB. All three mint, and supposedly unused. I see nothing to contradict that. All boxed and Gurantees enclosed, with two of the pens shop receipts. FP is never inked, I like to use my pens and so I will certainly ink it, once I am over a nasty cold. But in the meantime they sit very nicely in my coincidentally also arrived this week, Piquadro Nikolai NOS single pen cases. ( best thing about the cases ( Im easily pleased) are the boxes...all have dust where they have literally sat in a shelf these last years).

nice buy!

I am currently using and loving my twain!

Enjoy it on good health!

What nib size did you get?

Thanks, yes i’ll be back to normal in a day or two...I bought all three from one person and the receipt says M on the FP, it looks M to me so I don’t think there was an exchange.

Looking forward to using it!

Treated myself to the Rouge et Noir Spider and Snake editions in fine....smaller than my usual pen choices, but good weight and very smooth writers.....

I recently watched some videos and read some articles on how to tell a fake 149. The examples shown were cloddish junk. One had a converter.

My question is, "Are there any very well made counterfeit 149s?" I've never heard of one.

Regards,

Alan

I have not seen any broadly available 149 counterfeit pens (not counting those mislabeled as a 149 on eBay), but it is very possible to make one. There are a fair few homage pens that are made with materials or colors that are not the standard black. These homage pens are not meant to fool someone into thinking they have a genuine black resin 149. But they illustrate is it is possible to make a convincing fake. If someone wanted to make one it would not be very difficult. So far it has not happened.
