Herbins New color Vert di Gris is lovely in the Blue Hour when the LE ink runs out.

The closest to the original LE Ive come across is Waterman Mysterious Blue- it even changes color similarly as it dries

Confessions are good for the soul. Let's test that theory. B)

While I was at the shop to ask about a nib change to my 144R Classique, I fortunately connected with a super representative and discovered they DO have sample pens! I spent a fair amount of time trying out every single tester LeGrand:

EF, F, M, B, BB, OM, OB, OBB. I finally narrowed it down to 2 nibs and decided to walk around the shop while deciding which to order.

I looked at several other pens, discussed with the representative exactly what I was seeking, and at that point was shown a pen in the Heritage Collection. Uh oh - the pen felt perfect in hand - it had the weight of the LeGrand (actually I think a bit heavier), comfortable length, but in a slimmer girth. Did I say UH OH....... I was afforded the opportunity to dip two, a medium and fine nib. (Not an appreciable difference between the two - very slight).

I was tempted to select the less expensive of the two, but in the end I chose the one I really wanted. I cannot put it down!!!

Without further ado, here is my new love:post-144189-0-86075100-1533325054_thumb.jpgpost-144189-0-56637500-1533325068.jpg

I was on a holiday with my wife and I chanced on a sealed box set of MB Charles Dickens. A FP that intrigued me for years. It was from a trusted seller so I happily paid the asking price of USD1K. Did I pay too much? I did momentarily asked myself but then I realised, I cant find another like it anywhere else. The FP itself would be at the very least $600-700 uniinked. Right?

Since I got back I had been admiring the design and look and have not inked it. I already have quite a few other WE pens that I use. Maybe I will just keep. It uninked as it is for now... it may turn out to be a keepsake.

The price for the Dickens set is good indeed. I think I paid a little more than that several years ago for a similar set.

The Dickens is an elegant, understated pen. The NOS box set is a good find 17 years on.

The dickens is made from a resin which changes its color depending on the type of light source: purple, blueish-gray, gray and almost green.

You will notice this when looking at different pictures as well.

From what I know this was not on purpose and hence never advertised.

Still an interesting feature.

Personally I would never leave any pen un-inked ;-)

Cheers

I'm so excited because a Hemingway will be arriving Monday. Cross my finger and knock on wood, hoping the USPS doesn't f up again. And I just pulled the trigger on an Agatha today.

I've picked up a couple of Montblancs here at the DC Pen Show.

One of my objectives for the show was to find a coral Danish Montblanc, and my friend Osman Sümer came through as usual. The pen is a No. 6 button filler with a flat top, in excellent condition. This fills a hole in my Montblanc collection.

I also met Pravin Patel of Capital Pen in Maryland. He had a NIB 146 Doué, black resin with a vermeil cap and a fine nib. I am partial to black pens with gold caps, so I was very pleased to find this one. Pravin also showed me his collection of Montblancs with bespoke nibs--as you would expect, these are awesome to behold.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I was also at the DC pen show yesterday and I thought it was well done. I was also focused on MB’s but ended up buying a new Montegrappa Extra 1930 from Dan Smith. I came close to buying a NOS MB Shaw but passed after finding the Montegrappa. I only saw one Hemingway ($2,500.00) and I also looked at the pens at Mr. Sumer’s table. He had some beautiful pens on hand — congratulations on the Danish Coral. One other table had a great example of such a pen. In general, there were quite a few MB’s to be found including WE’s and POA’s.
