@Tom Kellie

Thanks for such a beautiful reply and handwritten to boot! Gotta say I love your style, sir. What Bespoke nib would you choose for Louis XIV?

@zaddick

I had not thought about that but you do make a very good point. Here are the comparison pics, with emphasis on the weight shown on the scale, so sorry for such terrible pics. You were right, by the way.

Uncapped, the weight difference between both pens slightly decreases. That means that Pompadour's Cap weights 5 more grs than Louis.

And, just for kicks, I added Pompadour 888 into the mix.

@MontblancLover thank you for the addition of the pen only weights. This is very helpful and hard to come by info given the leas common nature of the pens.

Fantastic info! Gotta love body only weights. Should we do a thread for it? That way the information remains readily available for those searching for it.

~ Reed_thoughts:

I second your motion.

Over the past year there’s been a number of occasions when I've sought accurate details about various Montblanc pens.

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/124912-large-size-patron/ Post #13 by Darius

The above post is especially valuable in that it provides dimension measurements for most of the earliest Patron of Arts fountain pens.

However, no mass in grams information was provided. The same general format for Writers Editions, Great Characters, Heritage Rouge et Noir, Solitaires, Meisterstücks, and others would be a precious resource.

For each pen model:

• Uncapped pen weight

• Capped pen weight

• Uncapped pen length

• Posted pen length

• Capped pen length

• Pen barrel diameter

Were such information measured and posted, it would provide a resource for better comparing fountain pens before purchase.

If someday it were to come about, I'd cheer!

Thank you for a positive suggestion.

Tom K.

Compared to the previous posts, a humble 146, Shakespear ink and a book...

Thanks for the link to that unknown but valuable thread! And as mentioned by Reed, it would indeed be not only a cool thread but, also very informative. Im sure others would think so as well, specially if it includes all your given parameters. Food for thought, and lots of work!

Humble is good. What nib?

A wet medium Ghost Plane, but Im now thinking of getting a B or OB. The writing samples that youve provided over various threads have stirred an appetite in me to consider broader nibs, I have ordered some Lamy nibs in B, 1.1 & 1.5 to try to help me decide.

A Proust that's in the mail. I've been dreaming of owning this pen for years.

That's great news!

After years of waiting, when it finally comes together, that's such a sweet feeling.

After it arrives, it would be very welcome to hear how your Proust is writing for you.

Congratulations!

My latest Montblanc purchase is a beautiful 149 90th Anniversary fountain pen with a medium nib. I purchased this pen at the U.K. Eastern Pen Show in Cambridge. The 90th Anniversary nib is beautiful and a delight to use.
