2017: A Year In Inks, Retrospective

Recommended Posts

I started a bullet journal in 2017, and I opened an ink log in it mainly so I could keep track of which ink was in which pen. It also turned out a nice capsule summary of my pen and ink usage for the year, as well as an ink sampler. The paper is Clairefontaine, from the "My Essentials" notebook collection. The paper is sort of a warm, cream-colored off-white hue.

Yes, the pages of my bullet journal look like a unicorn barfed on them.

Good idea, I'll think I'll start doing this for 2018. Now I got a New Year Resolution. Thank you!

Ditto. It really is a nice idea and as today is January 1st, it's a good time to begin. Thanks for the idea.

Yes, excellent idea! I'm going to look for a way to add this to my bullet journal. :) It's a Hobonichi, so there aren't a lot of spare pages to use for just anything. I'll have to ponder. :)

I’ve written detailed reviews of all those Monteverde blues in the Reviews forum (do a search) if you are interested.

BTW, I love this.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Very cool. What does "svc" stand for? Some entries don't have an "X" in that column, what does that mean? Perhaps it'd be obvious to me if I understood the abbreviation.

The "svc" column was meant to track if a pen was still "in service" with that ink. When the pen ran out, either for refill or removal from rotation. I put an "X" in that column. Eventually I just dropped that column, but I still used an "X" in the margin.

I made a video of me flipping through my 2017 ink journal:

LG, you have inspired me to do the same but this time with a blacklight.... Can I convince you to do a second video with blacklight? I think you will be surprised at what glows!

This is great, and very useful when checking out inks; I'm afraid it would also be "exhibit A your honor: proof that he has lost his mind, spends all his time testing inks!" Gasps of shock from the audience.

Well, I'm a tad odd anyway.

Let me see what I can get. My UV light is a very small one and can't cover the whole page with enough brightness.

Thanks for the explanation.

Very interesting. I don't do bullet journaling myself because I don't have that sort of mindset, but I do keep track of what pen/ink combinations work (or not, as the case may be).
