Bespoke EEF ‘Leopard’ 149 with Cherry Blossoms

Tom,

You said the EEF is Bespoke. How much did MB charge or can you get one thru the exchange program? I usually have my ground by a third party.

Regards,

David

I cannot speak for Tom, nor would I want to, but the last I checked the bespoke program fee started at 1200 Euros for the nib and you supply the pen. The fee covers consultation and design. The nib is then made to order based on your requirements and the feed is adjusted too. Optional engraving is available on the nib shoulders. EEF is only available via bespoke from MB. As you note, you can have a nib ground finer, but for those who choose to go bespoke it is not about the money it's about the process and having full satisfaction in the result. Edited by zaddick

Loving my 149s!

Lovely pens! How does the Rhodia work for you? I always find myself getting constant hard starts and skipping on my Rhodia pads.

Thank you!

The Rhodia pad perform well, but I have noticed that the coating on the front page is terrible. Writing on the back side of the page tends to be way smoother and wetter.

I would recommend checking if it’s baby’s bottom that’s causing the hard starts and skipping.

Triple One,

Which nib do you use most and why? I am planning on doing the same thing I have a XXF, 2 XFs, and a F and just purchased a new in box 149 XF and a new in box 1912 XF. Next month I will probably buy a 149 either B or BB...right now leaning toward a B.

Regards,

David

Hi David,

I tend to use all of the nibs equally. EF and F are mostly used for work. All of my nibs are used daily for when I write on my bullet journal. I just rotate them throughout the day.

I will probably use the Broad less since it is stubby. I tend to prefer Broad nibs that are not stubby. I have ordered two O3B 149s that I am expecting to receive in 2-3 months.

Other than that, the vintage nibs are nicer. But I had my modern 149s tuned by Eizo Fujii, he made them super wet and smooth.

King regards

Tom,

Do you have any 254 or 256 with the wing nib? if so what has been your experience?

Regards,

David

What a marvelous photo! Yubi looks happy and healthy, and the gorgeous nib is an extra bonus.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Tom,

I always enjoy reading your handwritten notes. The M nib used today looks finer than the EEF in the 32.

The Diamine Salamander looks kind of vintage...I like the color.

Do you have any 254s with the wing nib in your collection?

Regards,

David

Thank you for your very kind comments.

The 145 “Les Splendeurs de Paris” M nib writes reasonably fine if lightly held.

It performs especially well on Fritz Schimpf Feinpost paper, which brings out the best in both nibs and inks.

I've never heard of 254s or wing nibs. After reading your question, I asked others what it meant.

Tom K.
