Hi Tom,

Welcome back! Congratulations on your latest acquisitions ( both the 1965 Montblanc 149 and Pelikan m120)! I'm glad to know your okay. Your absence from the forum was palpable. I always enjoy your posts. How did you come to acquire the 149? Any plans to acquire more Pelikans? Personally, I'm waiting for the release of the Pelikan m101n blue gray.

Thank you very much.

Someone in Europe was aware of my interest in Oblique Fine (OF) nibs, tipping me off to the availability of a half-century old 18C 149 OF.

With three Montblanc OFs and a vintage Pelikan OF nib pen on my writing desk, I'm persuaded that it's a nib worthy of consideration by those who sketch or who are high volume writers.

I'll very likely confine any future Pelikan purchases to whatever Fritz Schimpf in Tübingen, Germany offers through their Web site. Their excellent service fits my requirements.

As I strongly prefer small-scale Pelikans, it's possible that other diminutive Pelikans may be ordered from Fritz Schimpf in the foreseeable future.

It was especially pleasing to receive a handwritten note from the Manager of Fritz Schimpf written in Fritzrot Rusty Red ink using a prototype Montblanc Expression Nib.

I had given no thought to any Montblanc fountain pen acquisitions in 2019. That Expression Nib note gave me pause...I may need to reconsider half a year later when the Expression Nib is released.

Were I to ever order a Montblanc Expression Nib, it would surely be through Fritz Schimpf, as I intend to actively support a stationery and fountain pen business of such superlative quality.

Welcome back Tom! And congrats on that great looking 149 OF.

An OF is truly something I shall consider in the future.

Tom, of all the xxx pens in my collection, there is not a single OF nib. Multiples of everything else, but now a very noticeable lack of an OF.

The hunt is on... and there is yet another pen to purchase.

I have a Pelikan 400NN OF that is a pleasure to write with. I thought I could do without a Montblanc OF but after seeing these posts..."just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"

Tom, you will single-handedly make the price of MB OFs jump 100% on eBay :D , as I found myself looking for an OF too!

I realized that I also don't have any OF from any brands. Totally unacceptable  .

I also need to have a look into those Fritz Schimpf inks: love those colors! And I thought I was done buying inks...

(very appropriate post BlueJ :) ).

Tom -

Thanks for your kind words regarding my modest, at best, photos. Having binged on your numerous posts across many threads since discovering FPN, I must say your photos and compositions are inspirational. May I ask what camera/lens combination you use for your macro shots?

~ Nomenclature in multiple languages has a tendency to proliferate like flecks of colored glass in a kaleidoscope.

Concerning Montblanc's flexible nib to be introduced later in 2019, I was told that it is to be christened the “Meisterstück Calligraphy”.

When double-checking with a VIP Montblanc collector, I was corrected, being told that the 149 version will be marketed as “Expression Nib” while the 146 and Artisan versions will be “Meisterstück Calligraphy”.

Curiously, Montblanc decided to forgo my proposed moniker for their flexible nib: “Hamburg Noodle”.

I'm not a Nibmeister, nor particularly knowledgeable in metals, or writing instruments...

BUT

The little information i have on the upcoming Flexible nibbed pens (Both the 149 and 146) seem to be going to be equipped with 18k nibs... and i thought 14k was better for such applications.

Generally speaking the higher the percentage of gold (the greater the karat) the softer the nib will be. That being said, the overall flexibility and elasticity will depend on what other materials they are alloying the nib with. You could theoretically have a 14k and 18k nib with identical flex properties and different material compositions.
