Vintage EF nibs have a bit of an architect grind to them which many people like. It may be worth seeking out an older specimen. It will certainly be cheaper.

~ Cyrille:

I'm glad you liked the images of the Montblanc Mini-Boutique at Shenzhen's Coastal City.

It's one of the smallest Montblanc outlets I've seen.

Nevertheless it was a pleasure to see the merchandise after a long spell without seeing anything new from Montblanc.

A visit to the Tutankahmun exhibition in Paris sounds like a wonderful opportunity.

When I was an undergraduate, one of my instructors took our class to see a Tutankahmun exhibition in Seattle, Washington, USA.

It made a strong impression on me, as the high skill of the artisans was unlike anything in my limited experience.

May your shopping visit to Montblanc Champs-Elysées be wonderful!

Tom K.

Thank Tom for your kind words.

The visit of the Champs-Elysées store yesterday was very interesting and warm. It changed from my experience I had at the Brussel store last year. This is the biggest store of France and they have an interesting collection of products (watches, leather and pens of course). These are some photos I took in the store:

And it is what I bought in the store (much more than what I foresaw, except the Petit Prince notebook bought the week before at duty-free of the airport):

So I bought 2 more Purdey inks I really like before it is not anymore available, one more of The Beatles for the same reason, one of Egyptian Blue, the Cassette Capsule notebook and the Wolf pen pouch. And a flagrance of Montblanc Emblem eau de toilette :)

Some additional photo of the pen pouch:

Thank you for the good tip Zaddick! A slight architect grind on an EF is definitely something that I would enjoy, so I’ll look for a vintage one when the wallet allows me to make the purchase. I’ve only encountered it once on a modern MB. The factory M nib on my Proust is also cut with a slight architect grind and it is easily the best modern M I’ve tried from any brand.

Thank you for the beautiful pictures, your flickr is delightful. One question, blue hour skeleton or unicef skeleton? Also, which one is your most favorite MB FP from your collection.

Steve

Really difficult questions and dilemmas :) I really like the nib and the skeleton body of the UNICEF but the Blue Hour allows to see the piston mechanism better than with UNICEF. So it would be 55% for UNICEF and 45% for the Blue Hour. But in collection perspective Blue Hour has only been produced at 150 ex. against 1000 ex. for the UNICEF.

And for my favorite it is really impossible to choose. I love most of them. Currently the one I prefer to write is the Purdey. From an esthetic point of view I really like the JFK limited edition and the Heritage 1914 coral for example. The Leonardo is really special because it is my first limited pen with family memories.

Great pictures Tom. We need one of those here in Rattlesnake Junction. I'm sure there's an old retired guy or two around here who would haunt frequent the place. Maybe a sheepherder or a cattleman once in awhile...

As ever, outstanding images which highlight the beauty of Montblanc products.

What you've acquired appeals to me. Several of the items are entirely unfamiliar.

The greenish pen case, eau de toilette container, the Egyptian Blue ink — all wonderful to see.

This thread is fortunate to receive regular photo postings from talented pen and ink photographers, e.g. you, Reed_thoughts, zaddick and others.

It brings an upward lilt to my week to see such excellent photos!

With time it may indeed be possible to find the sort of EF nib you're seeking.

It may be worth noting that there are half century old factory EEF nibs which are deeply satisfactory writers.

The several EEF nibs with which I write are treasures of nib craftsmanship.

I hope that you'll soon find what you seek!

Thank you for posting such a vivid fountain pen image.

Not only the pens, but the case is such an attractive design.

Rattlesnake Junction might see an upsurge in old fellers asking themselves why everything they ever wrote in their lives was always blue or black.

Who knows?

A bottle of Montblanc Pop Pink just might make its way out the door, carefully wrapped after being selected from the Ink Bar, at closing time.

Fine or Broad today... choices, choices, choices...

What great timing to upload this image.

At back-to-school time, the pens have the colors of school buses.

The ideal gift for a favored school bus driver?

Thank you Tom for this good advice about the EEFs! I will look into those as well and most likely pull the trigger on the pen with the finer nib some time next year. I still have one grail pen purchase Im saving up for this year and will share photos if I am able to snag that one. There are so many tempting pens shared daily on this wonderful site!
