Tom,

I love seeing your writing samples versus looking at swatches.

First MB Swan Illusion...now Callifolio Noir. I love these vintage looking inks.

Regards,

David

~ David:

Thank you for your kind comment, which encourages me.

Like you, I'm partial to the understated beauty of the vintage ink hues.

Thanks to you, I'll make an effort to post more hand-written comments.

While the bloom is there I thought I might add this snap of a recent acquisition that has a remarkable difficult nib to photograph

~ Uncial:

Not being a collector, I'm unfamiliar with most older nibs.

Therefore the image of your recent acquisition is unfamiliar to me.

It seems to have large flowers on the nib.

May I please ask what that pen model is?

Thank you!

It's the WE Bernard Shaw with a large flower bloom on the nib.

~ Uncial:

Thank you for the explanation.

The WE Bernard Shaw is one of many models about which I've known nothing.

Your photo increases my interest, as flowers appeal to me.

It's a lovely pen with a banded green resin that is very deep in colour and richness. It's a good bit heavier than most WE's.

That's of high interest to me as I've learned to appreciate more high weight fountain pens.

In your experience, holding the uncapped pen also feels substantial?

This information is increasing my interest in a pen which I heretofore ignored.

Thank you for sharing your impressions of it.

Yes it is. It posts securely and I tend to write with it that way but it takes a few sentences before I get used to the balance, Probably best used unposted but old habits die hard. My pen feels naked without its cap! A lot of the POA's are very heavy also. I tend to think of them as desk pens and they are certainly very beautiful. The Francois I is lovely but extremely heavy due to the real tigers eye barrel. It does post, but the cap is huge. Unposted it's a very nice writer and looking at the other POA's and the ones I've had my hands on that seems to be the common thread with most if not all of them.

Sharing my latest addition to the starry conglomerate!

The Beatles! (Great Characters 2017) The pen has a nice and sharp 14kt OBB nib

As soon as i get it i take it apart to service it

A 60x close up of the sharp OBB nib... i love that they are hand made because each one is unique, each one has its own character!

Among its peers, the fab four perhaps? (... OB and OBB nibs.)

Hi Tom,

I have a couple of questions for you. In your writing samples, what paper are you using? You had mentioned somewhere that you got you paper from Germany. Can you share that information again?

Also, what photo equipment do you use? I love your photos.

Cheers!

I never realized that, which reflects my limited experience in handling Patron of Art models.

The ceramic PoA Marquise de Pompadour is weighty, which has a tendency to propel my fingers along the paper.

I posted fountain pens until several years ago when one day I stopped and never did so again, apart from Mozart pens, which seem to work best posted.

The only times I post now are in photographs, to display the caps.

WOW! That 60x OBB close-up is stunning!

It's really true that Montblanc nibs each have their own character.

A Beatles with a 14k OBB nib sounds great to me.

When it was issued, I seriously considered the Beatles pen, with a broader nib.

I'm so glad that you acted on what I only thought about.

Thank you for these images, especially the group portrait.

~ DrPenfection:

The paper is the heart of my writing, as high quality paper is crucial for displaying shading and crisp nib effects.

The paper is Fritz Schimpf Feinpost, both in A4 and A5.

It's by far the finest paper I use for most inks and nibs.

************************************************************************

As to photography equipment, nearly all fountain pen images are made with the following:

• Canon EOS 1D X camera body

• Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZE lens

• Camera settings are Manual (M) shooting mode, ISO 800, f/11, indirect natural light reflected off of neighboring faculty housing

Thank you very much for your very kind comments.

Thank you Tom!

That Zeiss lens is fantastic! It is heavy, but the clarity is amazing!
