What Waterman Pens Do You Own?

RMN

Recommended Posts

I came to Waterman pens somewhat late, and would really like to have some of those vintage ebonite, but have not got round to buying even one yet, as I'm never quite sure in what conditions I would find them when buying online...

I do have some of the more modern Watermans though.

Here is one I got from a friend who was downsizing his collection...

Love that briarwood pen. One of my all time favourites. We don't get a chance to see one of those often enough.

(Love that Exception too).

:notworthy1: Master of Vintage Waterman! And where's your Serenite?

Very recent acquisition. Lady Patricia in Sterling. Fountain pen and mechanical pencil set. It should have bid higher in my opinion.

Addertooth,

Was this set on ebay last week? If so, I was watching it but didn't bid. It was a little pricey for me but still looked like a good value compared with what I saw on the web.

Congratulations, I hope you enjoy them.

Craig,

Yes, it was on E-Bay. I looked at the going price for just the pen, and the total cost for both ended up being about $100 less that what I saw just the pen listed for elsewhere.

The pen checked all the right boxes:

Very Vintage (roughly 85 years old).

Precious metals, gold and sterling silver.

Flex Nib; it has a nice gentle springiness.

Classic styling from an era which is long gone. Hints of Art Deco influence.

And likely working condition, which is a good starting point. I am still unsure whether I want to put ink in it. I may instead put some latex preserving fluid in it to keep the Sac from aging out.

I worked the vacuum lever a couple of times to feel for the "crunch" of a ruined Sac, but instead, I discovered it was pleasantly springy.

The printed example was done by the former owner via dipping the nib, to demonstrate the flex.

I have just begun collecting, even though I have used fountain pens for a few years. I will probably take a pause, and wait for some of the pens to make it in before I throw too much more money into it.

I will say Waterman pens from the 1920s and 1930s are very eye catching. I was surprised that such opulent pieces were made during the depression era, clearly some people had money for luxuries back then.

Waiting for it to arrive.... every now an then, when someone lists a 552 1/2V pen, it is not an 0552 1/2V pen. If they are not pen-people, they check the eBay price that 0552 1/2V pens are selling for, and list it as a "Buy it now" price which would be appropriate for a 0552 1/2V. I guess it is my lucky day.
