Well why not start the year with admitting my addiction

I wish my collection was like that!

My only Waterman pen is an Expert II with a Medium nib, which I keep filled up with Lamy Blue Black ink, which is my current daily use pen.

I've had a number over the years, but none lasted enough the use hardships. Currently I only have a Waterman Graduare Orix Satiné that I could get very cheap on eBay and I'm trying to restore.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

Waterman Kultur knockabout pens in clear and purple.

Waterman Hemisphere, Blue Obsession.

Waterman Carene, Blue Obsession.

Waterman Expert Black and Gold is on its way. Amazon was running it for under $40 today.

All nibs are fine. I didn't think I wrote all that small, but it seems I've started doing so after using Japanese 6mm ruled paper for classwork so much. I knew my writing had become really small when I opened up a Clairefontaine notebook, and felt queasy at so much space between lines. It must be akin to what people with agoraphobia feel when someone tries to get them to go outside!

Phileas in "blue" marble (more purple to me) with a fine nib and I'm waiting on delivery of a blue/silver Exception with a medium nib.

Aside from my Waterman Expert, I got a beautiful Waterman Caréne as a Christmas gift this year. Absolutely magnificent piece, though it skips on the initial stroke sometimes. You can't deny its looks though, the black body and silver trim give this pen a 'professional' look unlike any other pen I own.

Fingers crossed for Sheaffer’s future

Just got my first: the Expert III. I have only had it one day, but it is writing exactly how most people described it: balanced and smooth as silk (fine nib). Very firm nib, which I have no problem with (I am not a flexer). I love the classic look and click cap.

Some day I may own a Carene, but today is not that day.

I've got a few!

-Waterman 12 eyedropper, Red & Black Mottled, Wet noodle New York nib. Being a HR eyedropper, I put more ambitious inks in it, leading to some gorgeous flex lettering.

-Waterman 3, "Steel Quartz" celluloid, full flex #2 nib (although not as much flex as New York nib found on the #12)

-Waterman 55 Red/Black woodgrain, extra fine, extra firm, and super duper smooth Account nib (Uncommon?) Beautiful pen.

-Waterman 7 Red Ripple, Uncommon Brown Nib/Band. Retipped By Greg minuskin after slight flex at pen show caused left tine to snap off (most painful experience in all my pen collecting!!! Gah!! I remember that sound perfectly) It now writes very smooth, flexing from M-BB with slight pressure. Would like it to be a bit more fine, but oh well. That's just me being a lefty. Flows wet and works wonders with shading inks, though I almost exclusively use Pelikan Black in it. :P

-Waterman Patrician, Nacre, MASSIVE full flex nib that grades between fine/extra fine unflexed. Just as smooth as the 55's nib, but with a ton of springiness and flex. This pen is a dream to write with, and is very comfortable. I could write with this pen all day! Not minty, as the pearly bits have discolored to a slight orange hue. But because of that, I'm not as afraid to use it as if it were mint. Otherwise, no braising except on end finial and the very tip of lever. "F.J. Knoble WASH D C" on barrel. I carry it to class on occasion.

Will post pics soon!

Last week I bought Three Great Watermans and I am happy I got them for a reasonable amount.

One pen Seems to be a " Franken Waterman " but it is likely to be the very authentic pen listed by the details by the seller.

But my question is why due to the huge visible faded changes on the cap and why the pen barrel is only on near mint condition without fading at all.

Pen nib is a Stub left oblique well worn out too, it skips a lot so I hacked it to change with another waterman Ideal 14k old fine nib.

* Waterman's 52 Ideal BCHR dated around 1927, Hallmarked F.D.M. with two Goldbanded, barrel engraving with original imprints and bottom marked 52 Waterman Reg. Pat. Off USA

* A waterman BCHR Eye Dropper with gold Band engraving with a Semiflex 14 K nib.

* Waterman's 52 1/2 with Black chesed patterns Dated from 1920 with gold filled trim. Barrel with prints of Near to the end of the barrel is another imprint which reads 'Watermen. Reg US Pat Off. Made in USA'. The model number - 52 1/2 - can be found at the end of the barrel.

I'll show them soon next time with photos.

This is the pen I suspect is a Franken Pen.

It is installed with a new Old nib temporary. It writes Italic without Flex :)

Ah. you have a Frank Waterman, not a Franken-Waterman.

At the time there was another Waterman operating who had no relation to the company founded by Lewis Edson Waterman.

If you have now added a LE Waterman nib to it, you have a Franken-Frank Waterman pen, so to speak.

Looks like a nice pen, though.

I don't know how to load pictures with my mobile. So I will list what I own.

- 3 Hémisphère I in funky coulours and 2 II in serious colours )black and steel), unluckily all of them are F

- 5 Perspective in 5 different colours, 4 of which are M (it is one of my favorite pens) and one F.

- one Carène F and one M (another favorite), both blue but one CT and one GT.

- a brown Concorde, small size

- 2 Le MaN 200 (F & M) and one Le Man 100 Opera (F),

- an old model (Commando??) that I had repaired with a converter installed.

- one Gentleman, F laquer.

- 2 Gentleman 21 (Concorde nibs) and 2 Gentlemam 44 (Super 6 nibs),

- 2 Man (also Super 6 nibs), slightly different models. One of them has the best nib of all my pen collection.

- one L'étalon that leaks, waiting for the repair shop.

- 2 C/F, both of them leaked and one of them is leaking again, due to cracks in the section. Wonderful writers, though.

All the Concorde nibs (the small one on the two in the Gentleman 21's) leaked as well, due to cracks.

- An Expert I M nib (another favorite) and an Expert II F nib.

- An Exception slim, blue with F nib.

I think that is all (except for the inks!!! :-p)

I hope to find a Liaison at a good price soon. A cheap big Exception would be too much to hope for.

I may also buy another Carène M if I find it cheap enough. I love that pen.

My favorite, this pen is so fun to write with now, it came with the wrong nib, and it stretched the section, but now with an ideal 4 even though pst12 should have a 2, Im enjoying it

@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
    • finzi 18 Apr 21:44
@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.
    • Claes 17 Apr 8:19
      @bhavini A glass nibbed pen

@Jeffrey Sher it looks like this user used to be the organizer of the club https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/profile/8343-hj1/ perhaps you could send him a direct message, although his profile says he hasn't been on the site since 2021.

CANNOT FIND A LINK to pen club israel. what is eth website please
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 22:48
@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03
Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.
    • Jeffrey Sher 14 Apr 8:25
Shalom just joined . I have been collection fountain pens for many years. I believe there is a club in Israel that meets monthly. please let me have details. .

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:33
      Guess who loses
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:30
In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

    • lamarax 2 Mar 20:38
Oh well. In case of failure you can always wring the paper to have a nice -albeit somewhat stale- cup of coffee back.
    • T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20
@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.
    • T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20
@lamarax That's what I used! (In reply to black coffee).. But the milk might not be good at all for paper.

    • lamarax 17 Feb 18:05
Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.
    • Astronymus 17 Feb 16:19
YOu might need to thicken the coffee with something. I admit I have no idea with what. But I'm pretty sure it would work.

    • FineFinerFinest 24 Oct 8:52
No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen

Somewhat confusing and off-putting ones, as said to me by my very honest friends. I don't have an X account though :<
