My new sterling silver Grifos Pen and the City. Just got it today and opted for an 18kt gold stub (needed a mild grind) through massdrop. The order was delayed a little but it is a hand made pen in the Aosta Valley, Italy by silversmiths. Silversmithing aint easy I guess! Not familiar with the region but they do good work! The pen is one of those that makes your eyes bug out at little when you open the box. Its really as beautiful in person as the pictures! My only gripe is whoever was in charge of stamping hallmarks had a heavy hand. The silver and silver guild hallmarks are stamped with extreme aggression and slightly tweaked the barrels where stamped. I dont believe YOL does that. It is a light pen though and the silver tubing is thin walled. I imagine theres a spec for engraving depth so maybe the thin wall sterling silver doesnt play nice with that. It is an eye popper though! Happy to have it!

Couple FPN reviews I found about the pen

I'm doing a bit of dip writing with a Bayard Souvrain with some Monteverde Caribbean Blue...

And doing some work with this pen:

post-141371-0-13208500-1526147704_thumb.jpg

It's stamped "The Durable Pen" Made in England on the barrel... it's a solid piece of aluminium, and a button filler. Honestly, I got it because it was pretty cheap, but when it arrived it was actually much nicer than I was anticipating.

The nib, on the other hand, was steel, and cracked. After some trial and error, I ended up replacing it with a Sheaffer #3, hard, fine 14K nib off a broken pen in a lot I got a while before... and for now, it seems to be working like a charm! I'm currently using it with Noodler's Apache Sunset ink.

So far it's been:

the black Parker 45, M nib, finishing a fill of Iroshizuku Take-sumi;

the Silver Pearl Vac Major, F? nib, with diluted De Atramentis Tchaikowsky/Silver Grey;

and the striated blue Pelikan M405, EF, with Edelstein Tanzanite.

Which reminds me -- I forgot that I have that 45 soaking at the moment and should check and see how the flushing process is going.... :headsmack:

Sailor Procolor in Shikisai Uchimizu.

This is the blue demonstrator with the steel nib that writes with nearly the same sweetspot and pencilly feedback as Sailor's14k nib.

Had to play with this pen since another member got one as a first Sailor.

The pen is a similar size to the 1911 standard/mid-size and the pro gear slim/sapporo.

This Procolor is one of my favorite writers and this one is continuously filled with Sailor Shigure.

For swift writing without any calligraphic flourish, I'm partial to my Lamy Safari M.

For writing in Elian script, I've been using my new Conklin Duraflex.

I'm really itching to try a vintage wet noodle pen for writing in Elian script, but I'm not sure where to find a reliable one for anything less than a small fortune.

So far it's been the vintage Pelikan 400 OB, with Diamine Terra Cotta and then (when it ran dry) the Noodler's Boston Safety pen, flex nib. Only THAT pen, being of course an eyedropper, burped ink into the cap.... Ink Nix got MOST of the ink (Noodler's Luck of the Draw LE); I'm hoping washing my hair will get the rest.... :wacko:

Now trying to decide whether to flush or refill. There's a part of me that really likes the pen. And a part that wants to throw it through a plate glass window.... :wallbash:

I generally dont enjoy writing with Sheaffers, but I finally found one with a nib that simply dances across the page.
