In use this week are three Wing Sung 698's, all ef nibs, a Lamy 2000, ef nib and a Pilot 91 with a fine nib. All pens are filled with Diamine inks of various colours.

Obviously I really enjoy writing with the 698's which to date have give no trouble.

Today, I am writing with the Pilot Metropolitan (I've made peace with the ergonomics) or a Papermate Inkjoy 50 capped ballpoint. The paper is a Dollar General five-subject spiral notebook made in India.post-132986-0-58261900-1534485851_thumb.jpg

I'm actually writing with my L2K and Pilot VP today as usual (photo of the usual suspects attached), but while at Staples grabbing a pack of Sharpies I decided to try slumming it with a Zebra disposable fountain pen.

Under $7 for a pack of 2. I do genuinely hate black ink, but I didn't think it mattered for this pen because I was prepared to hate it no matter what. It actually writes fairly well though. It's smooth on Rhodia and Luecturrm (forgive the spelling, but I give up on trying to spell that brand), and bleeds badly on copy paper.

The ink is horrible, even for black ink. It's a sickly grey. The pen definitely feels cheap and of course gets 3rd class citizen treatment from me but for what it's worth this could be a good starter pen for someone. Or at least something to learn how to tune on.

As for me, my plans for the Zebra Disposable pens are thus:

-One will stay in my bag for the "What kind of pen is that? Can I try it?" Situations when I don't want to donate my M600 to a ham-fisted used car manager.

-One will go to my 2.5 year old daughter to be used under supervision so I can finally discover what a toddler will do to a fountain pen.

Photo of the Zebra disposable after my 2 year old "coloured" with it. It still writes. I'd definitely recommend picking up a pack of these as either experimental pens for tuning, or just throwaway loaners. Not any less expensive than some cheap Chinese pens, but presumably all Staples locations stock them so they'd be available without waiting for shipping.
