Platinum Pocket Pen

I bought a Platinum pocket pen - the upper one in the following series

One tine is bent - most probably dropped.

But the bent is so high that it is necessary to remove the feed before being able to re-bend it .

Can the nib be removed?

Fortunately, many Platinum pens have the same geometry, so I just can use another feed section. But that is not the ultimate solution.

I have to admit, it doesn't look bad with now the end ring in gold (color).

Thank you.

Michael

Why don't you send it back? If the pen in the sales photo isn't also bent then you're entitled to your money back unless you bought it from some dodgy site.

It is visible on the auction photos - if you know it. It is only not mentioned in the description. The photo itself is so bad - as often on Yahoo Auctions - that you really need to guess how the quality is. The seller will get a corresponding number of stars - let us say 1 of 5. Otherwise as usual no claims, no returns is written - lots of trouble if wanting to send it back. Yahoo Auction is not so buyer-friendly if compared with Aliexpress or Ebay.

If I can, I would like to start learning repairs - that would be a good starting case - perhaps.

That's unfortunate. It doesn't sound like a good place to buy from if the photos are hazy as you won't know what you're buying.

Personally I would prefer to start learning repairs on dirt cheap pens. Maybe if you show a photo of the problem someone can help.

If you can't fix it then at least sell it on to those that can, showing clear photos of what the issues with it is. There are plenty of buyers who actively work on defective pens because they have the means.

> It doesn't sound like a good place to buy

It really depends on the seller. Some of them have very good photos and exact descriptions where something is wrong. And some - very often people only rarely selling some of their old stuff, have very bad pictures because they don't know how to do better. This can also be a disadvantage for them. I have bought gold pens which looked like stainless-steel on the photo. So nobody trusted the seller and I got nice pens cheaply. Unfortunately, there are also cheaters who do this in purpose.

In this case, I feel a little bit cheated because the seller discussed a fault of the pen but didn't mention the clearly visible bend.

Here is a close-up photo, taken with my mobile. You can clearly see the start of the bend. I also indicated it with an arrow.

Thanks for any advice.

The anatomy of platinum pocket pen (also pilot and sailor) seem to be similar among different model. The nib of platinum pen have the wing to wrap with clear plastic feed. And have a screw in feed stopper to keep feed and nib in the section. May try to soak the section and use friction fit from new cartridge then screw it out.
