Recommendation Please: Waterproof Ink For Lamy Safari

I want a waterproof ink in my Lamy Safari and AL-Star. I've been using a Noodler's Bulletproof ink. What other waterproof inks would be good in these pens?

I understand Rohrer&Klingers iron gall inks are quite friendly to a pen. But I can not tell about experiences of my own.

I have used Rohrer & Klingner Scabiosa in a Lamy Safari M and had no trouble with it.

MB Permanent Blue is waterproof and provides great shading.

Check out the ink review section. I have found that my Lamy pens are very forgiving of waterproof inks as they are easy to fill and easy to clean.

I have a bunch of Safaris and AL-Stars. I only use waterproof inks. I use these without probs: Sailor Kiwa Guro black, Montblanc Meisterstuck 90th Anniversary Grey, Platinum Pigment inks in Blue, and Sepia Brun brown. I just rinse them out and give them a ultrasonic cleaner session when flow seems reduced. I've ground most of my nibs to a .5mm cursive italic (from Lamy F nibs) and use them all the time. Love my Lamys...

I have it permanently (huh! unintended pun) in a Lamy Studio which I believe has the same feed. Mine does have about 4% MB Perm Black added so it is now more a blue black, but the blue was good. The pen is only cleaned every 3 months or so (I notice 4 months since last clean) but it is well behaved and, once dry, completely untouched by water - unlike Noodlers I have tried which leech colour, leaving black behind.

I don't know if they are friendly but Scabiosa sure didn't destroy my Lamy. But I am still unwilling to fill more expensive pens with it.

I don't currently have it in a pen, but one that I have had good experience with is KWZI Iron Gall Turquoise. Have used it in a number of different pens. Not 100% certain, but my Al Star is likely one of them.

 

I do currently have Pelikan 4001 Blue Black in my Pelikan 140 however.

I'm a big fan of Pilot Blue-Black. It's very water resistant, flows nice and with a wet nib even has some sheen.

 

Oh and you can buy can buy it in bulk (the "coke bottle" version)
