My Sailor Pro Gear Squeaks, What's The Solution?

OCD alert: when unscrewing the barrel my Pro Gear squeaks, makes me wince, would that be a job for silicone grease or something else? Otherwise lovely pen.

I suspect time will do it, but since you're not likely to be working those threads a lot, it might take a lot of time. Silicone grease seems like a good possibility in the meantime - can't hurt anything, so it's pretty much zero risk to see if it fixes things. And it would likely take a near unnoticeable amount.

You could try an old trick to speed up the 'time will do it' version of events: a tiny bit of talc on the threads in the barrel.

My issue with silicone grease on barrel & cap threads is that only the tiniest bit on your hand/ fingers goes a long way and can give unexpected results on contaminated paper/ nib/ feed etc. Also, talc won't attract or trap other particles in the threads which may not be good for them in the long run.

Maybe it comes from my days working in car restoration - silicon is not welcome in workshops that also see paint!

I've got a Pro Gear Realo that squeaks less now than when I bought it a year ago (or so). The Realo cap has a spring-loaded inner cap, that's what I think is squeaking.

I only noticed it after picking up a Platinum 3776 with it's slip-and-seal cap. I've also got a Pro Gear Classic and two 1911Ls, none of which have the spring-loaded inner cap.

Thanks for the suggestions! Don't have talc, I put the smallest amount of silicone grease I could manage, something almost unnoticeable, on the section threads, seems to have done the trick. My cap doesn't squeak so I'll leave well enough alone.
