Is the ink also supposed to be out on Feb. 5? Not sure how some people here already have theirs (unless they are reviewers).

 

In my case I'm not a reviewer. The Al-star is available at a couple of shops in South Africa already. Our market is so small that I'm sure Lamy can spare 100 pens before filling the thousand plus orders from other markets.

I just got word from a famous Lamy retailer confirming the all-black Safari. He has seen it. Reproducing the chat below:

ME- Hey <>, the LE Safari color for this year has been leaked, and I suppose you've seen it in person (...). Just how different is the Black LE from the Charcoal Safari?

HIM - It's a little more different in person than in pictures. Obviously it's not night and day, but it's clearly different

HIM - To be totally honest, I was expecting something more unique, but the idea od a "Blacker black" Safari is growing on me

HIM - Yeah, I feel ya. The color's grown on me though.

ME -Nice! Any word on the accompanying ink, if any?

HIM - No accompanying black ink. They already have black

ME - Of course... but I was hoping for permanent black, or maybe a black ink with some different character like MB Ultra Black or something

HIM - Yeah, that'd be nice. Not this go around.

ME - No worries <>, still gonna get the all-black, haha. Thanks for the info!

 

So there you have it, a slightly different all-black pen, no Safari LE ink.

Haha yeah! And after all Montblanc Ultra Black was a disappointment, since it was less black than many available regular blacks

Someone mentioned a Burgundy colored Safari being a nice idea. 

I think a textured Burgundy would be wonderful. 

Yellow, cream, white, cornflower blue would all be colors I would buy in a textured finish.

Not a fan of Lamy or pink pens. The black is not much of a ‘special edition’; definitely very ordinary. Wondering about any LE inks........

Well, I was thinking last year about a matte black Safari. Miraculously they made it. Maybe I shall think of a glow-in-the-dark Safari for 2019.

Think about the Vista with black garments (clip, nib, inner cap) and the Lamy logo in bas-relief and without chrome finish, pretty please!

Today, I took a picture of a Lamy Safari pencil in Umbra and a Vista pencil (which has a black matte pushknob) side by side. I think it can be said that at least there is a difference between the two, although I never would call the Umbra brown color.

 

 

...and yes, this makes me a little bit exited and I am looking forward to the 2018 Safari. Until now I thought it couldn't get better than the umbra.... but maybe it could indeed!

I love the Safari, but stop buying them when they changed the trimmings to chrome... Well, maybe I bought a few whites, vistas, and charcoals to exchange the clips and nibs, but Ive run out of relatives to gift them the charcoal frankenpens.

 

I cant wait either!

 

Hopefully theyll use the same plastic as the umbra/charcoal, because the one used in the lilac and petrol editions were kind of brittle. I think they used the same plastic as the glossy ones and just finished them to a brushed surface.
