Group Buy - Ranga Emperor

This is the first Ranga pen I have bought and I couldn't be happier. The pen is beautifully made, the construction is very sturdy and the pen writes beautifully out of the box. I will be participating in future group buys.

Bobje, I love the green color of yours - and appreciate your excellent reviews -

Here are mine - The just-received Emperor, and also a custom Model 8 that Mr. Kandan created several months ago. The section of the Emperor is about 12 mm in the middle. This model seems similar to the Model 3 in size, but am not sure as I don't own one. For those of you who have the Model 8, this gives a bit of comparison (but my Model 8 is 5.5" long, a bit shorter than normal, and also a bit rounder on the ends by request). The Emperor feels really nice, is very solid and well made.

I am very happy with the quality of both pens, and equally complimentary to Mr. Kandan and his excellent communication throughout. They clearly care about their product and their customers.

I just came back from the post office where I had to pick up mine. Have only opened the package & checked everything was there - it was! my first 3-in-1 from Ranga. Beautiful as always. Looking forward to filling up & putting it to paper...

I have now had an opportunity to try this pen for a few days, and it has not disappointed. Comfortable, and beautiful as always.

Only, this time I got a Bock nib, and this I think was an unnecessary expense. I think the Ambitious nibs that I bought separately (or with some of my Asa pens) are just as good, if not better - and less expensive. Lesson learned... especially since I'm also not convinced I want to go back to converter filled pens after having adapted to the eyedropper!

no premium ebonite in this group buy?

for some reason this pen looks nice in standard ebonite.

It must be the black section and finals that give it a classic look, I also thought that it would look good in bakul.

I really wanted a mottled olive, but when I went to order the colour was already out of stock. Still the brown finishes are classic Indian (with also the greens) so I though I would try a brown swirl, as it's one colour I do not have yet.

Here is the pen

Here it is in comparison with a Ranga 3 flat top, the size is very similar.
The Emperor tapers slightly on cap and barrel. while the flat top 3 is straight.

The section looks identical to the model 3

A CC version, but I swear my next Ranga will be an eye dropper with ebonite feed

fpn_1516318343__p1140568-3.jpg

All in all a nice pen, the silky bakul finish is very nice to hold, the tapering shape is very slightly more comfortable than the model 3, the size is right (at least for me).

  • 2 months later...

quick question: the feed, is plastic or ebonite ?

Given this group buy*only* offers pens with a Bock nib unit, the feed will be plastic.
