Halo - Ing Inks

For the orange reds Blackstone Red Kunzea and Wild Orange have a nice halo.

 

For a real orange with halo: Iroshizuki Fuyu-Gaki including sheen... :D

Halo-ing

 

that crisp edge shading on strokes which are darker than the rest of the line

I think I can explain it. It's a wicking effect which happens to thick, feather-resistant, or pigment inks which dry slowly. A blob of feather-resistant ink will wick out water into the paper at the edges but leave the pigment behind, like in a filter, causing a line of accumulation at that edge.

 

If it's not feather-resistant, the dye will creep out along with the water. If it's too fast-drying or you use nice paper which can soak it all up, it won't go anywhere either.
