Hello From Minneapolis

Recommended Posts

Hello there! My name is AJ. I live down in Savage, MN. I've been using and acquiring fountain pens for the past year. My love of reading led to journaling, which led to fountain pens. So far I just have some of the typical beginner pens. Hopefully I'll be able to post a couple photos in this post. I've got my eye on a couple other less expensive pens right now. I just came across the Visconti Van Gogh Starry Night (or any other one in that series for that matter) and really like the way it looks. But that is out of my price range right now. =)

I've come across the Fountain Pen Network before, but wandered over here today to see if there were any FP clubs in the MLPS area. I saw a couple attempts on the forum back from 2008-09. I'm not necessarily interested in getting that going again, but if something came up in the area, I'd try to participate.

Other info about me:

Married (trying to convert her to FPs), have an 11 month old daughter, have a Norwegian Elkhound named Remus, I love reading Theology & Fiction mostly. I am a ChelseaFC supporter. I love freshly roasted coffee as well.

Got a couple more inks on the way thanks to a couple of online giveaways. =D

Glad to be on the forum!

Welcome, AJ ! :W2FPN:

I noticed your use of " =D " . You are going to love  the little fellows at the top of

the posting window. :bunny01: (Not literally, of course. That would be creepy. :lticaptd:)

BTW, resist leaving your ink bottles by the window. Sunlight can warm the inside of the bottle. Along with the moisture, there will be a "mold-friendly" environment.

Write with joy.

Thanks for the tips! I'm planning on moving the ink bottles away from the windows. :D

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

I'm not sure if there is a better place to post updates about what I'm doing or finding interesting with fountain pens/inks. I got to use my Noodlers Ahab flex nib yesterday. I bought the Ahab because I thought the flex nib would be fun to use, but in reality, I don't use it very much as I mostly just journal and am not very creative. We're inviting some friends over to celebrate my daughter's first birthday next month and I jumped at the chance to address the invitation envelopes. I used an ink sample of J. Herbin Rouge Hematite 1670 that I had which seemed to best fit the occasion. I wasn't thrilled with the quality of the envelope paper, but I had fun doing it. That's what matters right? :) The final product came out acceptable. My words slanted downward slightly. I'm going to apologize for the bad photo up front--the best I could do with my cell phone. I tried to show one of the better words, while getting a close up on the ink. Apparently my photo as an attachment was just over the upload limit. So now it's a huge link from Imgur. Sorry. Anyway, happy writing!

Hello AJ and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!
