Recommended Posts

Recently Nespresso sent me an email saying that if I placed an order for at least 50 coffee capsules, with free next day delivery, they would send me their free LE Moleskine Notebook.

How could I possibly resist? it won't take me so long to drink 50 coffee capsules, and here's a picture of my free notebook! Great job Nespresso. :D

More importantly, is the paper FP friendly? Because I've heard complaints about Moleskin unless you're using a very fine and dry pen....

That I have yet to find out. I haven't tried it yet, but I have read about the paper.

If it standard Moleskine paper it will probably have strike through with most FPs unless you use a fine point. I have got use to some strike through and ghosting. I dont care that much anymore. I do paste stuff into my journals and sometimes over pages where strike through is really bad. But then I use all manner of writing instruments in my Moleskines.

Sweet!

I whined loud enough to get the last Nespresso/molie collaboration: simply black, hard cover, embossed with the Nespresso logo. This new notebook is a bit more colorful but is not available in the States yet. By the way, if youre at all intersted, there is a subreddit for all us Nespresso fans. Drop by.

Also got the knife!

Even more importantly, is it coffee proof? I would like any notebook supplied with Nespresso would just have any spilt coffee just run off without damage...

Great! Will they send another when you run out of capsules next week?

I don't drink that much coffee, as I prefer herbal teas. So 50 capsules will last me for a while. I noticed that they have very long use by dates on now. These don't expire until 2030. I should easily manage to drink them all by then.

It is at the moment because I haven't unwrapped it.

I'm not planning on keeping it near to my coffee machine though. :)

I really like the knife, but I don't have one and have never seen one.

Thanks for the tip about the subreddit forum. I didn't know about that either. :)

Did it? You mean it won't be fresh coffee by then?

I would imagine that the capsules are filled with Nitrogen to stop the coffee ageing, in the same way that Illy fill their coffee containers with Nitrogen. That would also be why the capsules are made of metal, not plastic.

OTOH, what are the chances of finding a coffee machine that would still handle those capsules by then?

I'm not even sure I will still be here by then. So I'm not too concerned about the coffee. :)

Surely if they are selling coffee that doesn't expire until 2030, you would expect that they would still have machines that can handle the capsules? :) On the other hand maybe not. -_-

You could probably open the capsule and pour the coffee content into a filter and pour the hot water over it...a tried and true way of making fresh coffee independent of machines. You can even improvise a filter, if the filters are no longer available (but given their longevity at this point, I think we have reason to be hopeful... if we're around, so might those filters be...)

One of the great things that comes in every Nespresso box is a special pill that grants one immunity to coffee sanctimony. Many of us made a conscious decision to buy Nespresso after years or decades of running professional grade dual boiler heat exchangers and precision drips or pour overs.

To use Moleskine likewise is often a deliberate decision, made after much experimentation and experience.

I received a thank you gift from Nespresso. A notebook with an aluminium cover and spiral with a story how the cover and spiral are made from recycled pods. Received the same notebook with the same story last year too. Would have been nice to have something a little different this year. Must say this was unsolicited and did not require a minimum spend. Maybe the Moleskin deal will head downunder sometime in the future.

Inkypete, interested in parting with one of those? Would make a nice addition to my Nespresso-themed collection.

Last year they collaborated and did the knife in Arpeggio purple and it sold out instantly. this years is Livanto bronze. Yawn. Small wonder the knives are still available. The model is the Pioneer except they stupidly omitted the key ring attachment which, I found out to my horror, severely limits the knives utility. All of my other plastic, wood, and aluminum SAKs have key ring/ lanyard attachments. BTW, none of the aluminum-sided SAKs include the traditional toothpick and tweezers so dont expect them.

Moleskin is a touchy one,

I use finer nibs and inks and don't press down like I'm driving it through 3 pages.

Many on here refuse to adjust and take cheap shots at the mighty M.
