Which is the cheapest place to buy a lamy z50 steel nib +shipping?

It should be relaible site that has a good selling history.

Amazon is likely to be much cheaper than Lamy themselves.

 

I would look on Amazon first, then maybe eBay, but be careful about the seller on eBay because you wouldn't want to end up with a fake Lamy nib....

A big NO to Amazon and eBay because the UK retailers like fontoplumo and the writing desk have cheaper prices and the writing desk UK has a sale on Lamy z50 steel medium for 2.50 EU.

Selling on eBay is strictly against Lamy's Ts&Cs. Therefore, you won't find genuine reputable dealers selling Lamy products on that site. You have been warned.

If you already knew of a seller of Lamy nibs that would only cost you 2.50 euros, and you weren't prepared to consider Amazon, I'm surprised you asked the question rather than just going ahead and buying a few. TWD is obviously the place to go.

 

Edit: As of now they are GB£2.85 plus delivery on TWD. Total GB£4.35

On Amazon.co.uk: GB£4.27 from Pilotfishpens - a known, good seller.

I would pick TWD, especially if I wanted more than one

p2p has been around long enough to recall the sting of small pen world businesses being driven out of business by M tactics by the big A, (& others). Join us or our buying power will temporarily acquire the brands you sell, undercutting your prices until you go under, and they did. exactly did this. No one should ever support tactics like this to save $1.

 

When I urge this community to buy from pen world businesses that devote their time and full resources to Us, this is one strong factor.

Along with legitimate products and positive resolutions if manufacturing, stocking, or shipping issues arise.

 

Twd is a great example. Prices and service that Very often can't be beat. I had products arrive from the UK quicker than from my own state < cheerful grin.

(thanks Martin for the correct Lamy info, most problematic Lamy issues land here from these sources - each of mine from Twd has been 100%, and why I easily recommend Lamy as reliable).

 

edit to note that some legit small pen world business have, as noted above, had to go the route of the A & e etc to stay in business. If that's the only way, do support them in this method, but first attempt to go directly to their company supporting them directly. Or ask them the best method to keep a marketing balance so they aren't forced out of business.

Goulet, here in the states, sells the two-tone gold nib for about US $100 and the Safari-style nibs for $14.

How much less expensive would they need to be for you to buy from a reputable dealer who supports the fountain pen community with passion and commitment and fabulous customer service?

I dont recommend looking for Lamy stuff on ebay and amazon. Avoid getting fake ones! You better support the "small" businesses!

You were discussing about Safari style nib of Goulet pens and not the real Lamy nibs from Lamy, right?

 

Sorry for asking, i want to avoid missunderstanding. I dont shop on goulet pens because i am in europe and Lamy steel nib costs around 4 - 5 euro

No, to be very clear, Goulet does not sell off-brand replacements for Lamy, or specific to this discussion Lamy Safari. I just checked.

Interesting Goulet option, since Safari nibs are easy to swap out, are Sets. Italic in 1.1, 1.5, 1.9 (1.1 is my EDC). And, Black nib with EF, F, M, B.

 

Each of our pen community businesses developed their own unique niche to better serve our needs (and whims :-). Perfect reason to view each, and rotate orders among each. Those that invest in making pens for us too.

 

Paper products too. As of recent, you may now find very ink friendly Whitelines in university book stores, but don't forget FPN's own DaveT was the first (& only) small business who negotiated to bring this smooth special US manufactured paper to Us. BTW at better prices than lesser paper at brick & mortar or the big A. Thanks Dave!

I'm shocked about Lamy nibs prices! 14 usd is like €13 for the price you can get 2 nibs here....

 

I'm starting to understand why people purchased Lamy products from ebay or amazon.

 

And i dont know whether people in the US be charged extra money if they buy Lamy products from webshops that are located in Europe.

US buyers have to pay local taxes, import taxes, plus an "on-cost" for international shipping of the product and "handling" by the local Lamy distributors - all of which adds up. So yes, sometimes it *is* cheaper for them to buy from European online retailers, depending on shipping costs - but then there's the additional time for delivery - and possibly customs duty?

 

Australia has fairly generous laws (for now) around overseas purchasing and delivery - the threshold at which import duty / customs is applied is fairly high, and the GST (goods and services tax) that local companies must impose on their products doesn't apply either. Our local distribution chains for fountain pens seem to mark them up considerably (again, allowing for international delivery charges, import duty, GST etc), so it's *often* cheaper to buy from overseas. I *used* to look to US online retailers as my first port of call, but over the past couple of years that's changed: British or European products are much cheaper if I buy them direct from Europe; shipping fees are much more reasonable (curse you USPS / FedEx!); and the reliability of delivery is much the same.

 

Long story short: if you're in the US, your local suppliers will often (not always) give the best prices overall; if in Europe, especially for European brands like Lamy, find a European retailer; elsewhere in the world, it's best to shop around but buying close to the source will often save you a fair bit!
