Mid-Year Inks

~ Due to the complexities concerning ordering inks from overseas, I typically order a few inks twice a year.

A bottle of Montblanc Red Chine ink for the Year of the Dog was a must in my household.

A Montblanc piston converter arrived for future use. At present two piston converters are in the two EF nib Classiques on my writing desk.

A local see-through EF nib pen with a pre-installed piston converter was an unexpected gift from the Diamine ink vendor.

The mid-year inks arrived this evening. Yubi was interested in the packaging, but soon ascertained that no food was involved.

To his delight, two sacks of puppy food also arrived from Hong Kong.

Something for everyone...

First and most importantly: I  Yubi!

Now, on to pens....

This OB 144 is a new pen to me. It's my first oblique nib. I LOVE the way the writing looks, but I'm having some issues with it -- mainly, it skips on the downstrokes. I've tried a few different inks on a few different papers and it's all the same. I've been watching myself write and studying how the nib hits the paper. I don't think I'm hitting the sweet spot. I write with the paper sideways and the pen pretty straight on. I'm going to stick with it for a few more fills, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hi Shannon, thanks for the cool writing sample. Oblique nibs work best for me if I hold the pen in a relaxed way and let the nib find the sweet spot. The writing experience will improve. Your pen lays down beautiful lines of ink and the nib will befriend you. I am now inseparable from my Heritage 1912 OB.

Yubi is enchanting. (The pens aren't half bad either - I swoon every time I see the small signature nib. It makes my O3B look EEF.)

Shannon, rotate the pen so the nib is resting on its oblique foot. I turn my pen so the nib so that the breather hole is facing north, West, West.....If that makes any sense.

~ empliau:

Yubi sends his tail-wagging thanks!

He's fountain pen friendly, as he doesn't use his mouth to test unfamiliar items.

Yubi sniffs, looks, then walks away, rejecting non-food items as having no practical value.

Thank you so much for your very kind comment about the Bespoke Small Signature nib.

It's become the “pen of choice” for most writing tasks.

2018 — What a year! The incomparable Bespoke Small Signature and Yubi!

Yubi sends his heartfelt, puppyish appreciation!

He's charm personified.

My Heritage R&N Solitaire Serpent 1906 is back just in time for my birthday yesterday with its OBB nib (my first oblique nib and broad too):

I'm still practicing to find how the right position of the nib to write and benefit of the maximum of the oblique nib but for the moment I still have some difficulties :)

Tom k, is the Picasso blue made by Parker? It resembles the old penman bottles.

~ Blueberry567:

Picasso is a mainland China producer of fountain pens and a limited range of inks.

Their target market is the Chinese domestic market, with no international marketing division.

Picasso is independent, wholly unrelated to any international fountain pen or ink manufacturers.

Chinese industrial design frequently resembles international products.

Picasso doesn't pay a royalty to the Picasso image licensing agency as they've stated that they don't feel that they need to do so.

It's a mild true blue which may be suitable for several non-Montblanc fountain pens on my writing desk.

Ghostplane is the best teacher...

Don't search for the sweet spot... Just let the pen find it

~ Reed_thoughts:

Yes...holding a pen, letting it settle into the optimal position, the sweet spot is found.

The assortment of Montblanc oblique nibs on my writing desk have all written well without any special effort to reconfigure my grip.

Like much in life, it's not a matter of leading but rather of listening...in this case through one's fingertips.

I concur with your endorsement of Ghost Plane as a down-to-earth guide to practical writing with oblique nibs.

A first training with alphabetic letters with Emerald ink compared with my M nib of Petit Prince Legrand Solitaire and Petit Prince ink:

And some french quotes:

~ Cyrille:

What a fine birthday surprise!

Your Heritage Rouge et Noir Solitaire Serpent OBB is quite a striking pen.

The comparison handwriting samples with the M nib Petit Prince LeGrand Solitaire is very useful.

Your new OBB nib with Emerald ink writes such expressive characters.

The difference is strongly apparent, with a heightened degree of shading and line variation from the OBB nib.

After carefully looking at the two handwriting samples, I'm impressed by the beautiful result which you've achieved with the OBB.

Of highest importance is your own feeling about the OBB nib. If you're satisfied with it, then all is well.

It's very kind of you to prepare and post these nice images here.

With Appreciation,

Tom K.
