Tom K, have you tried a Pelikan? Their pistons are almost too smooth IMHO.

~ Blueberry567:

The two Pelikans on my writing desk are both over half a century old.

I've never held a contemporary Pelikan.

The 140 Semi-flex M and the 400 OF are excellent writers.

Their respective piston knobs turn easily, but not especially smoothly.

Your kind comment has whetted my interest in holding a more recent Pelikan.

The PoA Marquise de Pompadour's piston is ethereal, effortlessly moving as though all trace of friction had been reduced to no more than memory.

Tom K, I'm envious of your 400 OF, as it is the only Pelikan nib I do not own yet... sigh... There were some fantastic nibs on those old birds!

~ The comparison images posted by Cordovian in the above link is a warning concerning the origin of goods purchased on-line.

I've posted this here for future readers of this thread, to underscore the need for caution.

The misleading nature of one source neglects to note the actual point of origin.

While my own purchases are handled in other ways, there are many who might be at risk without realizing it.

Caveat emptor” remains sound advice.

Shannon, that's awesome.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Thank you, Amberlea! And in the meantime, I made a new friend:

It's not the sort of thing I would ever use, or buy - but I have to admire their ingenuity. It always pleases me to see someone find a solution, which had been staring us in the face all the time, good thinking.

I'll bet the competition is kicking themselves.

Thanks for sharing.

What a TERRIFIC portrait!

Cat, pen, lighting, color — WOW!

Thank you for letting her present her close-up here.

What's her name?

~ Shannon:

The portrait of the 144 OB pen with a handwriting sample is superb!

Thank you for posting it here. The pen is a beauty and writes very well.

Yours truly has limited familiarity with inks, so both the De Atramentis Atlantic Blue and the J. Herbin Lie de The inks are unfamiliar.

May the pen be a joyous writer for you with whatever ink you choose!

I completely agree.

Practical innovation is commendable, especially from an old friend like Montblanc.

Nasturtiums

~ Throughout the past academic year Montblanc fountain pens from my writing desk have provided first class service day in and day out, week after week, month after month.

Preparing lesson plans, drafting remarks, marking examinations, commenting on student research manuscripts, offering personal notes for excellent work — various Montblanc pens wrote well.

There are no favorites, as all are cherished workhorses. I lack the acumen and discernment of a collector, but rather enjoy using pen and ink for standard work tasks.

Nibs of all sizes from EEF to Bespoke BBBB yielded lines, strokes, curves and assorted doodles, as needed. At no time and in no situation were there any problems.

Montblanc pens inked with either Montblanc inks or Diamine inks are one of the most satisfying aspects of each work week. It's a blessing to have them at hand for every writing or sketching task.

Final examinations are weeks away, therefore the final task will be marking and calculating semester grades. Time to load Montblanc Corn Poppy Red into a pen.
