The U nib is a Signature nib "Unterschrift".

An old ebay listing description:

Rare Montblanc Masterpiece 925 silver fountain pen, with 750 18C U / UNTERSCHRIFT white gold nib in mint condition

Never seen triple broad nib with maybe a minimal oblique touch. The U on the original nibsticker stands for Unterschrift / Signature. This piston filler was only produced for a short periode, from 1971 - 1975. The pen is in nearly unused condition with no signs of use. This pens are getting more expensive every year. On this classic 1980ies design pen all parts are marked 925 and the nib with 750.

Yubi sends his tail-wagging best wishes to your cockapoos!

He's an extraordinarily affectionate puppy. With him in the home, there's never any feeling of loneliness.

You're most heartily welcomed to Fountain Pen Network, to the Montblanc Forum, and to this thread.

Whichever Montblanc fountain pens are on your writing desk, I hope that they provide much enjoyment to you.

If you ever feel comfortable in doing so, an image or two of your favorite Montblanc pens would be a delight to see.

Thank you for your kind, thoughtful words.

Tom K.

Apologies for the less-than-clear images (I took some with a proper camera earlier but couldn't find my adapter to download them to my computer, and then ended up taking these at night with my phone). And I can't get my photo to load the right way, so the pdf file is a right-side-up version!

Thank you so much!

Your lovely new nib inspired me in several ways.

I'm now interested in Montblanc Special Editions honoring cities.

It's very nice that you selected the Stadt Hamburg Special Edition.

What an attractive nib design!

Yubi sends his enthusiastic, vigorous tail-wagging best to Max and Zeus.

If your WE Swift was changed to a BB nib, your writing pleasure might very well be enhanced.

BB nibs are great fun. They provide an expressive range to handwriting.

Thank you so much for the image of your favorite Montblanc pens with a handwriting sample. It looks great!

I appreciate your noting the three inks, all of which are excellent.

The Jules Verne blue/purple is intense. I'm glad that you showed it, as I've never seen one.

It's really a delightful image. You've given me an idea or two.

My one and only WE is a Schiller with a Bespoke Sketch nib. I'm learning to love both pen and nib.

With Appreciation,

Tom K.

That f-nib on your Swift WE is fabulous.

Each nib size has its own charm. I value having a variety of nib sizes in my modest collection of user pens.

Thanks for sharing.

I wanted to toss a quick writing sample in here for all the folks wondering, How can you write with big nibs? The paper is in my Paperblanks journal.

For some reason, I'm drawn towards entries #2 and #5 .

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Thanks - my pleasure! Believe it or not, the Swift is actually a medium nib (I think the MB Swift ink runs a bit dry and therefore the line comes across as a bit thinner here).

And I completely agree with you on having variety - I've got F, M and B MB nibs, and definitely want to expand outwards. My wallet is telling me the most cost-effective (though slightly less fun) way to do this is exchange the nibs on some of my current pens as opposed to buying new ones!

Thanks for sharing - I am definitely one of the people who has worried about this, and this (in addition to all the praise for B+ nibs on this thread) is convincing me to try and take the plunge soon.

Can someone whos experienced with MB nibs please help me out...Im thinking of going with an OB or BB nib, currently more on the BB side. Would you say that on average, one can expect stubby line from either of those nibs and that they are, on average, tuned so they offer nice shading - for example with Irish Green or Lavender Purple?

I know there are variations from nib to nib, but after a couple dozen nibs on Pelikan, I can say that they will be round and offer lots of shading. Im sure someone has enough experience with MB to call this one :)

Thanks

The U nib is a Signature nib "Unterschrift".

Yes, U = Unterschrift.

Thank you.

Others opinions may differ but I would advise going with the BB nib. If you haven't used an oblique before it can be a bit of a risk as obliques don't suit everyone. Both will have a stubbish quality but it will probably be slightly more pronounced on the BB nib. I have an OBB on a 146 and I have to be careful how I hold it when writing. Personally I find it a little bit restrictive.

Ah no, obliques are my favorite nibs, the thing is I already have an amazing oblique (well, a few actually), but I dont have an amazing stub nib yet.

Will a BB nib from MB produce a stub/stubby line with nice shading though?

Yes, and so will an OB or OBB. The difference is the angle for max variation. With a BB you get the thickest lines on a vertical stroke and the thinnest on a horizontal. For an oblique the thickest line is on the diagonal left top to right bottom and the thinnest is on the diagonal left bottom to right top.

Yup, I know.

Is your yes for stub, shading, or both? :)

For both, though I would suppose shading has a bit to do with the ink and paper.
