For the convenience of future readers I've posted the link above.

It's very helpful to see the images of your delightful Dostoevsky BB nib.

Thank you for mentioning it in this thread.

That's a Writers Edition pen which I especially admire.

Equipping it with a BB nib makes it a choice gem among pens.

May it write very well for you now and in the years to come!

Tom K.

Thanks Tom.

The image you posted with stark shadows is terrific!

Very sorry that you had to flush it a couple of dozen times.

Does this mean that you'll have a pair of Twains? A B nib and later an EF nib?

If so, will the twain Twain meet on a plain in Spain?

Tom K.

I will indeed have twin Twains when mine gets back. Some pens I love so much that I rather have two. I see a lot of potential in the Mark Twain design & Thomas Mann for that matter .. my first Twain came with a chipped snowcap and so I am hoping for MB to replace it when doing the nib exchange to EF.

After re-reading the thread, I saw your post above.

Thank you so much fir the positive comment about Montblanc customer service.

Their work on your Dostoevsky BB has resulted in an especially lovely pen.

I'm very glad for your sake, and pleased to know of Montblanc's exemplary service.

Tom K.

I have dealt with Montblanc Service in Hamburg and in Mississauga, Canada. They are very good: competent, true to their word and friendly.

Talk to them about this. Sometimes they do not address cosmetic issues unless you ask them to.

I have made a mention of it. Hoping for them to act on it now.

yeeeeees :)

And BB is pretty cool.

Is it this nib or is the sweet spot of a BB waaaay smaller than a regular B nib?

Beautiful writing sample.

Good question regarding the sweet spot. I would say not necessarily. Ink flow is a factor too. Could you show us your pen in action, i.e. still photo?

Yes please.

In my experience with MB nib exchanges, the behaviour of the nib changes in the first few days of using it. I dont like to theorize about why this happened. But it did.

The bb nib units can sometimes have a lot of oil in them. Should be a noticeably better flow and a fuller feel after second fill. Its also worth bearing in mind that the stubbish quality means you might sometimes be leaning a tiny part of the nib edge off the page or rolling the nib slightly as you write and you should get used to it with use. If not, keep your service record as you can return it for adjustment if it's grind doesn't suit you.

so tried to take a pic mid writing :D

Will keep writing and hope it gets better.

Sometimes I have problems starting...probably just a holding problem.

Had the same with my italic, but I seem to figure that one out.

I was just wondering, because the regular B nib is so easy to write with. The BB in store (the testing pen) was pretty easy as well.

I like your close-up action shot.

It's cool!

Thank you for letting us see your pen in use.

That is a hot nib, brother!!!

Nice line variation.

I suggest using it for a couple of weeks. If it still misbehaves then, have them adjust the nib. Hang on to the writing samples that demonstrate the misbehaviour and let MB see what is going on.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to thank you all (especially Tom for starting this thread) for all the knowledge you’ve been gracious enough to share. I was into fountain pens ~12 years ago (primarily MB) and stepped away from them a few years ago (they weren’t widely used at work and it was just easier to grab a random pen for notes). Over the last couple months I’ve been dusting off my collection (so to speak - I made sure to clean and properly store them :-)) and read through this whole thread over the last week or so. I greatly enjoyed it, and wanted to convey my gratitude.

I’m hoping to participate as well, though I’ve of course still got a long way to go before understanding all the MB ins and outs to the same degree as all of you.

Thanks again!

P.S. Tom, I’ve got two cockapoos (one completely calm and one that is very active - both very loving) and love seeing the pictures of Yubi!
