Winter Afternoon Nap

Tea and Pens

~ Whenever I take the camera out to photograph fountain pens, Zuji loses interest. He may realize from past experience that no food is likely to be involved.

Accordingly, this afternoon he settled into a Winter afternoon nap on pillows, as I considered ways to photograph the Red Gold 149 OBBB in afternoon sunlight.

The unexpected occurred. For the first time I saw the deep wine-red glow of precious resin. I'd never seen it before from any of my Montblanc fountain pens.

In the image above, the bar of reddish light at the top of the pen barrel, roughly above the sticker, is the wine-red glow. It was a darker red than I'd supposed.

This is just brilliant.. The blue in the bird followed by the blue ink and the colors of Zuji followed by the tea..!! They all just fit, so pleasing for the eyes :)

Many thanks for your very kind encouragement.

It means a lot to me.

You've all inspired me to use this morning's bright sunshine in the locally chilly temperatures.

The potted pelargonium on my south-facing, third-floor balcony are cheerfully blooming despite the Winter cold.

The Red Gold 149 OBBB fit well with one of the bloom clusters.

It was photographed while kneeling on the desk, leaning out the window, holding both pen and camera.

As the lens is a manual focus Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZE, there was a bit of back and forth to get it right.

What did the neighbors think?

Probably: “Crazy foreigner!

They're right.

I found a good deal on a platinum O3B a month ago and made the plunge. The pen finally arrived yesterday (the vendor had to order the pen then ship to the US from Europe). I was thrilled to finally get the pen but before I could ink it I noticed a small but deep gash on the clip. So, back it goes to the vendor in Europe who wanted to manage the warranty claim with MB. Im betting it will be two months before I see the pen again but hope Im wrong.

~ tinta:

Yes, at age 64, as photographed yesterday by a waitress.

It's the close of 2017, so I had an open-air lunch in 2ºC temperature.

I'm abstemious throughout the year, but yesterday enjoyed a 2015 Riesling Trocken.

As I was downtown shopping at a supermarket, it was one of the few times that I had no fountain pen with me.

May 2018 be a terrific year for you and yours!

Darn. Thats such a downer. At least you got your pen. Im still waiting on mine and I know I placed my order before you did. Hopefully this will be a quick swap for you. I love the prices we can get overseas but the shipping times leave much to be desired.

How right you are.

Carefully assessing the light makes all the difference in both bird photography and fountain pen images.

Natural light has a softness which appeals to me. Waiting for the light to be just so is an integral part of the process.

Thank you for noticing the kingfisher image.

May 2018 be especially good to you, your loved ones, your business and to the area where you live.
