Tom, I have been on a lot of business travel and a bit behind on my FPN reading. I am glad you are on the mend. All the best for a continuing recovery for Yubis peace of mind as well!

~ Toll:

Thank you for your very kind wishes.

The temporary inability of my left foot to bear any pressure was an unexpected invitation for one week of uninterrupted reading.

Yubi must've wondered how I came to be on the sofa all day, next to his play area.

He's a highly responsible caregiver, frequently coming by to offer kisses and tail-wagging good cheer.

Very fortunately he doesn't tend to chew anything, including Montblanc fountain pens.

Tom,

I was traveling for a while and am catching up on my FPN reading.

Sorry to hear that you had health issues. But glad to hear that you are getting better.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Lovely photo from Yubi.

Hamlet says hi to him! :)

I have been having issues getting my OBB nib exchanged. On May 2nd I purchased the new Burgundy JFK from my boutique here in California. Having spent time playing with the nib testers I decided on having them send it in for an exchange from a M to OBB. I was told it would take approximately 4 weeks. It has now been over 3 months and no pen. I never even took the pen home for a single day. Never held it in my hand. Only purchased it and had them write it up and send directly to Germany via the US service center. This is my 3rd issue with MB service in just 1 year. I don't know what else to say. Does it usually take over 3 months for a nib exchange from the US service center? What would you all suggest that I do at this point? I could really use the help from our friendly community here on FPN. I'm almost tempted to go the the manager and just demand a full refund (which they usually only give store credit) ... however ... I would much prefer to have a pen with an OBB nib. Suggestions and any recommendations or opinions would be appreciated. Good or bad. I'm open for advice and help.

My little prince has just been gone for about 3 weeks now for an exchange to BB from the New Delhi boutique. They gave me a time of about 2 months for the nib exchange. I was told that the pen does not go to Germany and the nib will be exchanged at the service center. I wonder what is the MB policy for the nib exchange or is there a different one for different countries.

It's an exceptionally lovely Summer afternoon where I work and live in Central China.

Moderately warm temperatures, no humidity, gentle breezes and no haze or air pollution.

Nothing like lovely Newport Beach, but a balmy day of pure pleasure here.

I'd returned from a brief grocery shopping trip downtown and read your post.

It shocked me, as that's not even remotely like anything that I've ever experienced here, despite more than one dozen nib exchanges.

More than three months for an OBB exchange?

Incredible!

I had a NOS Writers Edition pen in the USA which I submitted to the McLean, Virginia Montblanc boutique at Tysons Galleria.

Toll knows how excellent their service is, having posted favorable comments about it.

I submitted the pen to them for a Bespoke nib, which is typically a drawn-out process due to custom craftsmanship.

That pen reached McLean, Virginia and thence to me here in Central China in less than three months.

What you're experiencing is unacceptably delayed service. Your Burgundy JFK deserves far more prompt service than that.

I'm truly sorry that you're having to put up with such a protracted delay. Your local boutique must feel deeply frustrated to have no positive news to share with you.

Would you please let us know how this matter plays out? Something about it seems wrong.

Hoping Your Burgundy JFK Arrives Soon,

Tom K.

I am sorry to hear about the delay! I would at a minimum check in for a status update. I was able to get nib exchanges for two out-of-production pens in about 5 weeks (despite some issues as noted in another thread). My boutique was very helpful, so Id hope yours would be as well.

And I would not be shy about requesting a refund - I was told my exchanges would at the longest take 8 weeks - if the response is subpar. Best of luck and let us know how it plays out.

If I may ask, how does it matter that they take 2 months or 3 ?

I plan to keep my pens for a long long time. As long as the work done is perfect, I do not mind waiting... I would always try not to irk the local staff since most things are outside their scope of influence. They are better kept as good friends who are allowed an occasional misstep as long they remember it and make amends for it later :-)

The turn around in nib exchanges during July and August might be a bit slow. I've always found them to be very fast to be honest, but I have read quite a few complaints about some places in Europe and pretty much all of the USA. I've no idea why this is the case, but some seem to be very, very slow. Do some boutiques/authorised sellers wait until they have a batch together to send all at once?

In Europe July and Augustus are the period of Holidays so maybe the teams are in reduced workforce. That is the reason I'm waiting September to send my Blue Hour skeleton to MB to exchange the nib.

@ Tom Kellie

Lovely pen pics. The MB 32 is similar to the 126.

Sorry to hear about your foot.

OTOH, uninterrupted reading and extra attention by Yubi seems a good trade off.

I am unsure if a speedy recovery is needed, in this case. :D

Glad to hear that Yubi has not developed an exotic taste for MB's, Yet.

This thread piqued my interest so much I hunted down an OB nib to use in a 144. My new pen, The Spider, came with a fine nib. I didn't see any nib options for the fine and I don't think I want an OM. Should I be hesitant to have an OEM fine nib modified?

Thank you for mentioning this thread's influence on your obtaining a 144 OB.

I hope that the 144 OB writes well for you.

I've never hesitated to request nibs which meet my needs.

If a more fine, or a more broad, nib suits you, by all means go ahead and order one.

Fountain pen writing is a pleasurable activity which is most fun when it's customized to personal preferences, whatever they might happen to be.
