I wonder how well Santa will look after us all. I shudder when someone buys me a notebook who doesn’t understand that not all notebooks are created equal. I always smile and look grateful.

Maybe we should order in extras of our favourites to offset the potential problem. I know I'm getting a FC Loom because I ordered it, but no ink or paper. Yet.

Will work for pens...

Trying to get my head around how the new features of the upgraded forum platform has helped take my mind off shopping for more paper and stationery… sorta.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I let Santa know about a notebook I had long wanted. I could never pick a color. Once I knew what pen to ask for from the same site, I asked for the notebook to match. Santa knows I don’t get notebooks in blue often. Green and sometimes red as a nod to the traditional colors of the season are more likely.

Santa knows about Tomoe River paper. 😉

🙂 Last Christmas was when my 'new' FP interest filtered into general awareness and I was given a notebook. It's only the fact that it was a gift that stops me putting the thoroughly absorbent paper to other uses...

It's like someone finds out you're into painting and buys you poundshop poster paints. Poor dears just aren't aware of the esoteric details.

I've been greylisted at my local stationary store. (not as serious as Black). Their range is inadequate for the likes of ourselves. Apparently I'm the only one in my town! It's a small town but not that small! I'm crazy fountain pen guy! I say to them, "don't worry..I'll do all the heavy lifting..when fountain pen mania arrives you can just mop up all the money"! 🤣

I've found it nearly impossible to find Reporters Notebooks. I love the 'top hinge' instead of book format. Has anyone used 'Moleskine'? They may be my only chance. At the moment I'm ordering extra Rhodia #18 Ivory but even that is selling out fast.

Have you considered asking them to order a reasonable quantity of what you like, reporter notebooks for instance, and purchasing the lot?

It's time Paul. The experiment is over and I've found exactly what I want now.

Excellent suggestion and yes I will be considering that kind of arrangement.

There is an online stationary store in Wellington. I've become a regular there this year.

Even bought a couple of nice pens from them. A Lamy 2000 and..when I found out the Faber-Castell eMotion Pure Black is actually an official 'All Blacks' Limited Edition here in New Zealand I thought that was worth a shot.

An All Blacks limited edition would definitely be a must have pen.  They are my second favourite side after all.

Will get to Daiso next week and check if they have the FPs back in stock. Still keen to try but just can't find them in store.

Hi inkypete. Sadly the one I bought from Rene at Pen Classics in New Zealand has been defaced by some sort of grey ink on the barrel..shaped like a leaf or flower or something. I'm sure it would sand off no worries. Good luck with yours.

Have you seen the Write notebooks?  They have some top hinged. I should have checked where you live. It used to show up.

Hi Misfit. I'll do some searching. The name isn't familiar. I live in the upper North-West corner of New Zealand's South Island. Most common quality paper brands I see are Rhodia, Midori Clairefontaine Tomoe etc. There is one Sketch pad in 'landscape' format that works if I open it vertically but it's unlined.

It's all part of the wonderful journey and I've every confidence I will find the perfect one for me.

In the meantime Rhodia is serving my needs very well.

Thanks for taking the time to comment

I checked their website, and didn’t see the top bound one I got several years ago.  Although I did see one landscape version. www.writepads.com

Good luck in your search @Gaudi95

I’m sure you’ll let us know. 😉

Thanks Misfit. Already visited site and saw a spiral bound landscape. Looks good.

I did bind a book of my own at art school, 16"x17". It was enormous but I filled it with drawings.

So well constructed and I've had it for 30 years. Now..if only I could remember how I made it..!

Picked up a A5 ish sketchbook at Office Depot yesterday. The one I have been using is down to the last few pages. I am aware of some things coming my way for Christmas - some Tomoe River A4, and perhaps some Field Notes books.

I need to look and see if there is anything else I want to pick up in the next little while.

large.2136028993_DAISOCollectioncaseNo.1(JAN_4939491801192).jpg.da3a96b0a222d2551379b9248d876f34.jpg

Back in late September, I was shopping for some ink storage solution components in Daiso (and looked in Miniso, too, but it never seems to have anything suitable, and its prices are not as cheap), and came across this product — as well the 4 Cube Case, which is sized slightly differently.

I measured both products, and this one seemed to be a good fit for 60ml bottles of Platinum ink, if I decide to discard their cardboard retail boxes but still want to stack them high in storage. At the time, the store had ample stock of both products, so I figured I wasn't in a hurry to decide or buy; and my focus was on other things on the day.

A month later, when I revisited the store for the third or maybe fourth time, it looked to me this product may have been discontinued, even though there was still plenty of units of the 4 Cube Case; the shelf space originally allocated to this has already been repurposed with other plasticky bits and pieces of display stands. Given that there are two other Daiso stores within walking distance, I wasn't too worried; and when I visited another store (slightly further away than the one in Sydney CBD), it had ten or so units of these, which was relatively many. Phew! This could wait.

On my next visit (about ten days ago), the two shown were the last units on the shelf, and seemed to have been left behind only because they were displaced and obscured by some other products of the sort; so, not that I have any immediate use for these right now, but I pulled the trigger on the spot.

Not bad for A$2.80 apiece, even if it turns out I don't use them to prop up ink bottles; they're probably about the right size for the swatch cards and paper rectangles I intend to use for cataloguing my inks.
