I'm A Sad, Pathetic Stationery Junkie.

Found myself this cheap (and flimsy) fold-away storage box from Daiso that fits my share of the haul of Paperblanks journals almost perfectly:

(I can still close the lid on it with the last Ultra-sized book sitting flat on top of the spines of the books in the middle, although the top won't then be nearly flat.)

My wife got one of those boxes for her share of the haul, too, although there's a little bit more spill-over she has to house elsewhere.

Another good source for inexpensive storage option is the Japanese store called MiniSo - sort of an advanced Daiso. Haven’t found any stationery I like there but storage options offer a great choice.

I think confining to pens are okay. I don´t have much inks and limit myself to just 5 bottles. I think when you get into notebooks and all the other large space taking stationery stuff then you need help.

There's one in my neighbourhood, and in fact I might drop in after my run this afternoon, but I don't usually look there. The couple of times I've visited MiniSo (stores in different suburbs), I found their prices more expensive, their selection narrower, and their product quality no better than Daiso. The only time I've seen a large MiniSo variety store comparable to Daiso was in Beijing.

Edit: Nothing suitable in size and format in my neighbourhood Miniso store. Judging by the remotely similar products it carries, if there were any they'd be at least twice the price as the equivalent Daiso product.

Yes, well, the hoard gets heavy and sometimes I have to ask my wife to help me move the boxes or shift the cabinets.

...

Another journal arrived from Amazon today (finally!)

Two more Paperblanks journals now "delayed" according to Amazon (Who said La Couronne du Comte is the only retailer that doesn't tell prospective customers at the time of ordering that it doesn't actually have stock for immediate order fulfilment?), one more ordered today, and three others I ordered from a "local" eBay seller in the same state should be coming in either tomorrow or on Monday. (It's a shame Amazon AU doesn't offer all the covers/patterns my wife declared that she just luuuvs, and so I have to pay postage expressly for the last lot.) I think I'm done...

... for now. As in this week. Hmmm.

Happened by Daiso today and picked up a coupe of packs of plain index cards. First disappointment I have had for a while from Daiso - terrible. Feather and bleed with my finest nibs. Straight in the bin. They didn't have ruled or squared in stock - they have been very good lately.

I'm really disappointed that, in spite of Amazon telling me two units of that Paperblanks product were in stock at the time of ordering (and promptly became "Temporarily out of stock" immediately upon confirmation of my order), more than two weeks and several "unexpectedly delayed" updates later, today I was advised:

Hello,

We're still trying to obtain the following item you ordered on 28/05/2020 (Order# 503-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX).

Paperblanks "Emb, Schubert, Ultra, Unl"

http://www.amazon.com.au/dp/1439736073

We're awaiting a revised estimate from our supplier, and will email you as soon as we receive this information.

When did "in stock" means not sitting in Amazon's warehouse, but waiting on stock from the supplier?

If you're talking the Indonesian-made ones with product labels that look like this:

then, yeah, they're pretty bad:

New notebook day, all in the same package from Amazon. Is there a Notebooks Anonymous program?

The Butterfly Garden design is much prettier than it photographs. I ordered it because is was the only Flexis cover left at the reduced price and I wanted to see how the cover and paper compared to the hard cover versions, but was concerned the cover might be too chromatic for my taste. It is, in fact, rather nice and more subtle in real life. There's a slight shimmer which catches the light rather nicely giving a softer effect, but makes it look harsh in a photograph. I am pleasantly surprised at the shallow embossing which gives it texture. The paper is cream and smooth, while the hardcover versions are white and slightly less smooth (I expect it will take graphite pencil better, but still not cause a problem with pen and ink).

Will work for pens...

Does anyone know if Muji do index cards? Prefer 5"x3". Its a fair trip for me to get to the local Muji so hoping another Aussie (A Smug Dill?) may have noticed last time they were in store.

I'm sure it does, but frankly I don't trust any of Muji's made-in-Indonesia paper products to be fountain pen friendly; see above for my "testing" with the mini index cards.

I agree in terms of quality. Bought a fair bit of excellent loose leaf a fair while ago - love it. Went back and bought a packet a few months ago - rubbish.

I'm sure it does,

Sorry, I'm afraid I've given you a bum steer, mate. I looked at Muji's Australian web site and didn't see any index cards in its "catalogue" last night, so I dropped in to the Sydney CBD store after my run today, and to my surprise Muji doesn't sell anything even remotely like index cards; the closest are sticky notes that are 7.5x12.0cm. Furthermore, their prices for most stationery products aren't actually/relatively cheap, say when compared to Daiso, Officeworks or specials on Amazon.com.au for something roughly equivalent; I'd only turn to Muji and give it a chance if the products in question are made in Japan and reasonably priced.

Thanks for the update. I don't recall ever seeing them but their range changes from time to time. Appreciate you checking for me.

The Summer Field Notes subscription is shipping, but in a zig zag pattern. Tracking shows the package left Chicago and headed west to a distribution center in Kansas City, Kansas. This is usually the stop that gets the package to the local Post Office. But for some reason the package left KCK, and headed east to Akron, Ohio, then to Cleveland. It now appears to have turned around and headed west back to Kansas City, KS.

Perhaps it will make the shipping estimate date of June 26 after all. But it could have arrived on the 24th if a sight seeing trip to Ohio had not been allowed. I have never been to Ohio, but my Field Notes have.

I have to go to a large mall tomorrow, the one that has the best Daiso in Melbourne. Might accidentally call in there.

Oh have fun!! Pity my Field Notes package didn’t have a passport.

It will be all the better for the experience.

True, probably true. My order from Cult Pens came. No notebooks, but the Kaweco Summer Purple ink leaked.

And the Field Notes must have taken a day off to go to an Indian casino in KCK, that or to check out the Kansas Speedway or Cabelas or to get BBQ and Russell Stover chocolate. They need to cross the state line to Missouri and my mailbox. They are having more fun than I am.

Did you go into Daiso? Did you get cool stationery stuff?

My brother got his order of Tomoe River paper today. I introduced it to him, so I’m claiming that for half credit as a stationery junkie.

Just got back and might need counselling. No stock of the little Apica style B7 notepads. No index cards. Had to buy a few of the Mruman spiral notebooks. I drove home a shattered man.
