I'm A Sad, Pathetic Stationery Junkie.

I did it. I fell for Prime Day on Amazon. I'm now getting an Ultra-sized Paperblanks Journal.

... but it's shiny, man! Gold leaf embossing! So pretty!

(looks up at 7 remaining Leuchtturm A5 journals that spouse passed to me with the words "I don't like using these, you can have them" 2 weeks ago)

... definitely necessary, man. Definitely.

But if with time the paper changes due to humidity or its opposite, you may have a store of favorite paper that when you get around to using it is no longer behaving like your favorite paper... (ask me how I know! I had a ream of southworth really nice typing paper that sat for years, just found it again, and while still pen-and-ink-friendly, it's much more fragile and brittle than it was... difficult to handle.)

So, if an eBay seller had your favorite journals and you bought their entire stock so that you'd have five years worth, but they were 60% off the retail price, would that be bad?

Asking for a friend.

That would be a necessity IMHO.

Stocked up on Kunisawa notebooks because... um... I like them and the large suitcase of notebooks I have, are locked away while we try to sell our house, so I cant see them, therefore I dont really have them. Also, I have been away on holidays and havent bought anything, except a bottle of ink, in ages.

Mea Culpa - I allowed my Field Notes subscription to lapse, but still look for paper wherever I go. . .

So true! Maybe if I just look at my paper hoard more often, I'll stop buying more?

Sadly I know I won't stop, but I will buy fewer. At least it would be a start.

I know what you mean. I keep asking myself where the line between collecting and hoarding is drawn. I find writing an inventory often helps. There's something weirdly magical about the act of writing things down.

Having said that, I have 15 journals either en route to me or on order. I bought a ton from that eBay seller and then a few more from the Graphic Image sale. Even on sale, those came out to almost twice as much as the eBay ones, but they'll have my initials and the volume number embossed in gold on the cover. I don't know why I need to mark my territory, but I do love personalized stuff.

Now that I'm good for the next decade or so, maybe I'll stop buying? Yup, I'm hoarding. I see it now.

I have struggled with this notebook hoarding. I did sell off a pile of Moleskine and still have a box full left over. If I buy anything in notebooks they must have excellent paper and a low sale price like 75% off or more. That personal rule has slowed the hoarding. At my age I have a lifetime supply. Need to write more.

I think we're in good company. I was surprised how many pages of results come up when I Googled Notebook Hoarding.

I'll admit to that. Good paper in a notebook: irrestible.

I guess if you write at all, you probably hoard notebooks: https://www.notebookstories.com

Ugh, it looks like my mailman decided not to deliver my new journals. He seems to have left a "No secure location available" pick up required note. Our community's mailboxes have two walls of keyed lockers. Guess I'm making the hour round trip into town.

Last time he did this was when a pen required a signature. There's a phone wired into the front gate, right by the mailboxes. I officially hate you lazy mail person.

Actually, it takes me about that time to pick up my notebooks at the post office - they never deliver unless it's unregistered.

So it's kind of a given. The trip includes a ten minute into and ten minutes back to the car walk, so I get some exercise as well. But for me it's a positive experience... when I get home and unbox the notebooks, it feels great. and the anticipation of using them starts immediately, even if it will probably take a while for them to get to the top of the pile...

Now, I feel a little bad about complaining to the post master. Maybe not too bad, this same carrier lied to my face last month when he didn't deliver a package that required a signature because it was "too big" for our lockers. Even when I pointed out that the package had a single pen and should be tiny. (It was.)

The people at the post office were lovely. (They always are.) I think they're outsourcing the delivery nowadays, which probably means the delivery guys don't make much and don't get benefits. But I paid extra on shipping just so I wouldn't have to drive into town. :gaah: Where did I put that tiny violin?

The notebooks arrived safe and sound. A bit more shop wear than was in the description, but the seller threw in a free journal. So, I went ahead and bid on the last two that she has, plus a travel journal, after leaving glowing feedback. I've bought groups of five and eight journals before, but this is definitely a record spree.

I ordered a Coop NASA notebook on amazon along with a book called One Giant Leap. Coop also has a Webb Space Telescope book. Thanks to the PBS program American Experience’ Chasing the Moon, I now really know who James Webb was. Seems proper to name a telescope after him.

The notebook is supposed to arrive late August/early September. Hopefully their shipping estimate is off by one or two weeks.

I'm dying for good stationery, especially paper, it's driving me half crazy.

All the notepads and notebooks I could find in this town are no good, I can only use one side of the page and with the finest nibs. My other option is to use artists' notebooks, which necessarily have to have a good g/m2, but my gosh are they expensive.

I think I'll have a couple of notebooks and refills from Japan, European brands are scarce and overtaxed.

I just want some decent fountain pen friendly paper : (

@RoyalBlueNotebooks, I wonder if you started a post asking members in New Zealand for shopping places, if that would help. It would have to be near you of course. I watched an episode on Mighty Trains that featured Kiwi Rail, and learned more about the country.

My first thought to your post was "there's a railway system here??" Then I remember I passed by a railway crossing the other day while on the bus and almost missed my stop from the shock. It seems like either you own a car here, or you can wait for better luck in your next life.

Anyway, I'm a bit embarrassed to ask such a trivial question, and I wonder if there's a more enclosed digital space for Kiwi fountain pen users that I should sign up for. I also need fountain pen ink samples and so far the Kiwi online stores I found don't sell samples.

My last box of Moleskine pocket notebooks and 2 med M. notebooks have been sold, about 27 of them. Winning the battle.

Winning? This sounds like losing to me.

There are some options for decent paper in NZ. Rhodia pads are available at the dedicated online pen stores (penclassics, inkt) as well as some art shops.

Fitzgerald Taylor sells MD paper. Penclassics have just started stocking a TR notebook, otherwise, you'll need to pay for shipping from Oz.

As for samples, your only option is the US unfortunately. Either that or pen meets.

Vintage. Cursive italic. Iron gall.
