I'm A Sad, Pathetic Stationery Junkie.

KreepyKen

Recommended Posts

Every time I log in to FPN I am hoping there will be a new notebook reviewed that I don't know exists,

That'd be nice.

some new loose leaf paper someone has discovered at a budget price,

On that count, my position is quite 'the opposite'. I hope to see someone has gone outside of my comfort zone — paying an asking price outside of my budget, and/or ordering over a channel that is either so obscure or so inconvenient for me as an Australian consumer — to buy something which paid off handsomely for them in terms of material gratification, such that they want to share that experience and joy online.

As a stationery junkie, I want to be shown how much higher a high count get if I was prepared to do deeper down the rabbit hole, and not what is a cheaper way to score the sort of highs I've already experienced.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Found two notebooks at a second hand store. Ombre Top 2000 A5 96 pages Hamelin Polska. Hard cover with shades of blue. Grid pages with vertical red line margins. Slight show through with wet writer fountain pens. The other notebook with a black hard cover embossed with Zurich. Chameleon Like. Inc. Wide lined. Item #VPB. Not FP friendly but nice looking 5 x 7" notebook with inside pocket. Broke the bank at .25 for each notebook. Both in new condition. How do you turn down that? The collection continues.

Not much into second hand stores - until now. Never thought about looking for cast off notebooks. Hmmmm - new weekend filler.

At the same store was a shopping basket of large 2019 wall calendars and a variety of 2019 planners but didn't need any of it. I have found all types of journals, some very scarce limited production in new packaging, at second hand stores.

I was in denial about my stationary junkie status. I don’t have a huge paper hoard (only enough to keep me for the next decade or so). I only have a dozen or so leather notebook covers/travelers notebooks (and only 3 or 4 duplicate sizes). I haven’t memorized the notebook offerings for all of my favorite retailers (only Jetpens and Anderson’s and Vanness). I don’t buy loose leaf so I don’t stash it (I just buy it because my husband likes it so that doesn’t count).

But.

I went to check Nanami Paper to reassure myself that the best slim B6 notebook in existence is readily available and I should not feel anxious that I only have three. They are out of stock. Everything is out of stock. And suddenly I feel the need to buy everything papery I can find, just for the comfort, in case there are no more B6 cafe notes in the world.

Yet another Sarah.

That feeling has crept up on me on a few occasions across different genres. laugh.png

When does collecting transform into hoarding?

IMO, most people of FPN are hoarders including me. The days of what may have started as collecting, are long gone.

There are members here that have enough stationery, for the next generation, which may have to feature in estate planning. laugh.png

One may never get tired of writing out new "last will and testament" documents on good paper by hand trying to get the details just right.

Listing the contents of the hoard in detail would definitely entail numerous drafts, to get it spot on. wink.png Can't have the 25 year old limited ed. ink cartridge pack going AWOL...

My paper embargo is working so well I just ordered ten Kokuyo Campus (my fave!) notebooks, and am about to grab some Life paper.

Because the covers are cute.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I was at Office Depot and acquired a bunch of journals for $1 each ... you know, because....

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Bought a 12 pack of Cambridge spiral bound pocket notebooks. Great paper to buy inspite of the bursting box of higher end pocket notebooks already on hand. Never enough.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Mary Sue had an article on notebook hoarding. Apparently its a thing:

My favorite comment bar none was:

...if I don't buy All the Notebooks, what will I write in with All the Fountain Pens? I mean, that's just science. - stelae

Bought some A5 Nuuna notebooks as well as some by Kunisawa. Why? Because I love the way the Nuuna design covers the ends of the paper and also the gold ends on the Kunisawa notebooks. I only have 3 lifetimes worth of notebooks, so was getting anxious that I’d run out. I also bought some poodle paper clips. Why? Because... poodles.

I only have 3 lifetimes worth of notebooks, so was getting anxious that Id run out.

Despite already having fifteen very nice blank leather bound journals, I just bought three more because I was down to my last 9 inch hardcover journal. And since the bonded leather cheaper ones seemed to be disintegrating, I obviously needed the calfskin bound ones. Thank god for used and open box items on eBay.

Nothing in my diaries is really worthy of this nice of a journal, but I like to bribe myself to write. Plus I like the anticipation of new toys in the mail. So materialistic, but so true.

Has anyone bought the Bombay notebooks from Barnes and Noble? I don’t usually buy blank page notebooks because I like lined, but maybe I need to broaden the paper in notebooks horizon. Just curious if the style of the Bombay notebooks (the tie) makes them easy to use.

Aaugh! Now I want that notebook with the constellations in it. I’ve been wanting to go to Target, and that notebook better be there! It needs me.

The hoarding notebooks article was good. I have sold off quite a few moleskine notebooks and gave away a few. I was at 200 new assorted notebooks; well below that now but still over 100.

Wow, I think youre better stocked than most stores. Its like were all prepping for the zombie apocalypse.

So, if I have 200 bottles of ink and 76 pens, how much paper do I need?
