I have the Daiso Premium as well, both plain B7 Memo Pad and the A6 Notebook in gridded and lined (which are available plain as well). The paper is a creamy-colour and the lines soft. Favourites for me!

So I use the Getting Things Done system (GTD) for, well, getting things done. I mash it up with some Bullet Journal and tbh, it's about the only thing that has me vaguely organised. I would never have got through the 2023-24 nightmare of hospitalised parents moved to nursing home followed by my father's death (a blessing - dementia) without it. So many things to keep on top of. However the last few months I found things slipping rather a lot and I was suffering from The Overwhelm again. I realised that, in a fit of digital fervour, the moving my GTD system to Excel had in fact given me a right PITA issue in that I just didn't engage with it. Combined with work shenanigans and general grief / stress / life nonsense I was dropping balls left, right and centre.

So what did I do? Switched back to paper of course! Now I'm a big fan of discbound but I couldn't find a cover I liked at a sensible price, so instead I trotted off to Vinted and snagged an A5 Filofax Saffiano in a rather fetching teal for £17. A dip into AliExpress delivered an adjustable six-hole punch (handy if I ever find my old fabric Personal Filofax, which was a Xmas gift from a former employer and I suspect, a fake). The binder even came with paper, some of which went straight in the recycling after a pen test, but the rest is usable. A couple of hours' set-up time and I have a functioning paper GTD system again and I am a much happier bunny. So I bought some cute floral dividers on Amazon to go in it 🙂

Oh I also won a notebook in an Instagram giveaway - Hodge the Cat at Southwark Cathedral ran a little competition to win Hodge-themed merchandise, and I won! The notebook is A5 spiral bound, plain paper and it's made by Judges. It's surprisingly good, even with a broad Benu. Hodge notebook

£17 for an A5 Filofax is akin to a small win in the lottery. Congratulations.

I purchased my personal size Filofax for about the same price in 1989 and has been in use ever since.

Sadly the Saffiano is not leather, but they still charge £60 for them new which seems...optimistic! I'd have liked a leather one but sadly the collectors have snagged all of them. Perhaps one will cross my path one day. I do like them, even though I remember the days when everyone sneered at the "yuppies" with their Porsches and Filofaxes!

I was never, ever a yuppie. In fact, I was of the many who sneered at and mocked them.  But, I saw the practicality of a Filofax journal.  Not surprisingly, that same practicality was the reason most British Army officers had one.

Porsches on the other hand had an allure during my lustful teenage years, but Lotus and MG sports cars were what I dreamed of.

  • 3 weeks later...

I went to World Market for tahini. I left with more. Coolest is this Snoopy notebook. It was part of a collection celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip. At first I thought it was too costly. Now I’m happy I got it. My Pilot Prera in Ivory looks good with the notebook. The notebook has 160 pages of “luxe” white paper with red edges.

The notebook comes with a blue twist pen. Not sure what I’ll do with that.

Oh, what a fun notebook!

I remember the cartoons in the Sunday paper when I was a little kid (I didn't realize that Snoopy was a DOG -- but in my defense I think I was only around five the first time I saw one of the ones where he was chasing "The Red Baron").

Of course I just did a Google search and saw the price for that notebook on some site called I think I was called Graphique -- and yeah, the price was definitely something of an "ouch" -- especially since the first 600 page Miquelrius journals (ordered directly from them) were less expensive apiece....

@inkstainedruth yeah, $25.99 is high, and we can thank licensing for some of that. It’s Leuchtturm high, with fewer pages. It’s my 75th anniversary remembrance of my favorite comic strip.

@USG Snoopy is so cool that I joined the Charles M Schulz Museum as a charter member. I’ve been to Santa Rosa, California to see the Museum and Research Center, the Redwood Empire Ice Arena, with the Warm Puppy Cafe inside, and Snoopy’s Gallery and Gift Shop. They are all there together. I’m glad I took my Mom along so that I have some great memories with her (2005 I think).

In the 1990s I changed jobs.

The company had a custom of having a whip-round among staff for folk who were leaving.
As a 'leaving present' I was given a 'Personal'-size Filofax 'Hamilton', in brown leather

I would like to get a leather one in A5-size but, as we know, those are priced to be 'reassuringly expensive'

Tomorrow I get to start a new notebook. That's always an exciting day. The nervousness. The anticipation. Which notebook will I choose? Hmmmm. Going to be a sleepless night as  I wrestle with these considerations.

Oh, it’s the World War I Flying Ace out to shoot down the Red Baron. Very, very cool watch.

We also walked on the greenway to the Post Office to get a shipping tube. On the way back, we saw the Luther Burbank house and gardens. We were too late to see the house, but we could look at the gardens. If you ever buy a bag of Russet potatoes with Burbank on the tag, it’s for Luther Burbank.

Today has come. Did you choose wisely?

(hint: there's no true wise decision, apart from Graphilo of course 😛)
