#7 paper is getting harder to find

Hi PGC,  Happy Almost Birthday 😄👍

The Blurb in the TR52 #7 link says:

"Tomoe River paper mill announced in 2019 that it will be shutting down the machine unit 07 they used to make this paper. But the machine unit 09 took over making this paper. In Feb 2021, They announced that it will be shutting down the machine unit 09 too. The production line of Tomoe River is undecided after October 2021. However they are forming plans to continue a New Tomoe River supply with other Japanese paper mills."

It's unclear if the A4 paper they offer is from machine #7, #9, the Interim paper, or the new SANZEN version.  In the A5 "Pad" department they offer SANZEN  and TOMOEGAWA,  but it's unclear which TOMOEGAWA version, 7,9, or Interim?

Here's a link to a comparison of both writing pads.  This review says the Tomoegawa paper is from #9 <-- their opinion

XYZZY mentioned that there were 5 versions but I can only think of these 4 atm.

In 52gsm there is TR-7, TR-9, and TR-S, as you listed.  In 68gsm there was the Tomoegawa paper, and Sanzen has started making a 68gsm version as well.

The second link to the page with the pads has one that it says it's Tomoegawa and another that says Sanzen.  But the former doesn't say whether 7 or 9, perhaps @Penguincollectorcontacacted them and asked?

IC, the 68gsm version.

Wasn't there an intermediate 52gsm paper between Tomoegawa TR9 and Sanzen S?  I thought someone else had a go at it before Sanzen?

The inside scoop is that it's TR7.  Too late for me to contact anyone though.... Impulse Buy.

BTW, I'm still using the translator. 👍

Not that I know of, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. "Tomoe River" is a trademarked name, originally created by Tomoegawa, then sold to Sanzen.  Perhaps somebody attempted to make something similar to fill that vacuum, but I doubt they used the name.

Here’s the Yamamoto Paper Tomoegawa TR 52 that was said to be from machine #7 next to the definitely #7 paper in my Nanami Seven Seas notebook. They feel exactly the same. large.IMG_0976.jpeg.14ebb4277a9d5a70012f1899b3ca6892.jpeglarge.IMG_0977.jpeg.4dc950e48a78f97cd522d74dfb58a981.jpeg

I will find out today. The Glassine is the same as my last batch, the Jumpacku Roll is the one I have left to try. Did you receive your papers yet?

I'll admit I'm not as much of a paper connoissieur as some people here.  But I was killing a bit of time before going to my local pen club meeting and stuck my nose in a nearby Staples store, and they had some brand of composition books (both wide-ruled and college ruled, and with plastic covers) on clearance for 46¢ (!) US.  Brand is called "pep rally" and they're apparently made in India.
Think I'm maybe going to run out to a couple of other Staples locations tomorrow and see if I can get some other color covers (I got a pale pink one and a brighter pink one, and I think there was also a light greenish blue).  The Staples website doesn't seem to show the solid color cover ones -- just ones with designs that seem to be aimed at kids, so who knows....

We'll see how the paper is with FP inks -- but it does seem to be pretty smooth and generally good quality.  And for that price?  Sure....

India paper's been pretty good for fountain pens; how did it go?

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

@USG, the Jumpack Roll is a bit disappointing. The smooth side feathers, the rough side is better, but feathering still occurs with anything bigger than a Western F.

Probably, I’m on the same ocean as Japan, albeit far away. I didn’t even get a tracking number until the day before.

I bought a leather 6 pen case, one of the ones that slides out of an outer case. I also bought another ink swatch card album. Aliexpress is having a huge sale.

I bought two of these today.  I'm not sure why or what I will do with them, but they will be used.

How about a bit more detail, please. What is it? Where from, how much, what's inside, etc.?

From here it looks like a red sheet that has Stipula and EXERCISE printed on the front of it.

BTW, Nice shade of red
