Well...welcome to FPN. If you stick around here i expect your collection to rapidly multiply. It took a while but I have finally slowed down. I just have to look the other way when extreme bargain deals make their appearance. Good luck.😊

You are my tribe. Just the smell of paper...

And pencils. And leather.

I don't have quite the collection of paper as some have. I do tend to hoard composition books with Brazilian paper. Also sketchbooks. Oh, and quadrille pads. And Field Notes. Hmm, I'd better not start counting.

My biggest weakness is the pencil. I have enough of them to circumscribe a line around the equator, and from north to south pole and back. Four times. And still have enough pencils leftover to last my lifetime. That's based on a average of 35 miles per pencil - you do the math to find out how many I have. ;)

Last month I apparently insulted a librarian when I said I liked the smell of books. He jumped on me and said "Paper doesn't have a smell! If you smell something it's mold and we don't have mold here!!!" Okay. Not sure what sterile environment he's been in his whole life, but yes as far as I can tell, paper and books do have a scent.

Yes, they do - and that reminds me. Every time I go into a used bookstore, I break out in a sweat. I think it's some kind of allergy. Doesn't happen in a stationery store, or a "new" bookstore. Just used bookstores. Sure wish I could figure out what the cause is...

EDIT: I forgot to add that when this happens, I often detect an odor reminiscent of formaldehyde - not sure if it emanates from the books or the shelving. Anyone else with this strange affliction?

I did buy some 5x3 cards ruled. Have only bought the grid before. Plus these are ruled portrait instead of the usual landscape. They were low on the notebook range so nothing took my fancy.

I can *never* find portrait ruled 3x5 index cards. I make my own by buying 5x8 landscape ruled cards and cutting them down to 3x5 on a guillotine cutter. You get two portrait 3x5's per card, plus a nice little 2x5 bookmark to boot!

I have to be a close second to that for pencils. I am giving one of my Grandaughters a bag of mechanical pencils, .5 leads and mech.pencil erasers and she can share them with her friends...or keep all of them. I still have a pile of .7 pencils and boxes of quality wood pencils and I gave away a,short stack of notebooks too just to scratch the surface of my stationary notebook hoard.

Check out Daiso if you have one near you. Definitely available downunder.

My wife wants me to throw out the filled notebooks, about 25.

"They just take up space, and you will never look at them again."

Have you considered scanning them? I know it's not the same, but if they're meaningful that is a good idea anyway, as physical books are subject to a lot of things (especially poignant with all the wildfires in California). Digital copies can be stored off-site or "in the cloud," as it were, and it does preserve it if you discover that your notebooks truly do only take up space and will not be looked at again...

Nevermind me! I'm just an inkling, a mere pigment of your imagination...

In boxes under tables or beds, where you know they'll be out of the way. On the top of bookshelves if they have a shelf to complete the top layer. On wardrobes. In drawers in wardrobes. On closets.

And in new (or second-hand or what-have-you) closets.

Unfortunately thats not an option for me, I dont like boxes under beds or on top of other furniture, and all the wardrobes are built-in. I have since reorganised the shelving and created sufficient space for the 6XA5 notebooks waiting for me at the post office, along with dotted index cards I wanted for my course and the Excompta Desk Pad refills, because who knows if I may run out one day.

Next, I have to reorganise my inks so I can make space for the 3 bottles currently in transit. I am definitely NOT buying anything else, oh except for more A5 Muji refills and a binder, for my handwritten recipe collection. *sighs deeply*

Proud of you! I am excited - daiso has just opened a new store just 20 minutes from me - that halves my travel time. Probably need some A5 refills and binders, probably.

I might have a few ;) more notebooks and piles of paper than I really "need" but I can proudly say that I just filled up a Midori MD A5 sized notebook as a journal. I wrote from November 1, 2017 until August 12. I also have almost filled a 4th Quo Vadis Habana I purchased about 8 years ago as a spiritual/Bible journal.

At the rate I am going, I will run out of notebooks in around 2098!

I went grocery shopping. Then I remembered that with the latest renovation, the local supermarket now has a stationery corner. Damn it.

Long story short (I'm kidding, it took me five seconds to convince myself that I had to have it), I bought a notebook which brand I had never tried before. It's got fountain pen-friendly paper!

That was totally reasonable.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I'm in the same boat. Specifically I like leather covers for my notebooks. This is my daily carry at work, from OneStar Leather Goods. It fits the medium hard cover Leuchtturm notebook.

I've also got a brown one for the soft cover at home, another brown one for the pocket size Luechtturm which I use for ink notes. I've also got two Bugatti leather wraps, a one off from Etsy that fits Life notebooks, and a pocket size Rustico notebook with leather cover.

On top of that I've got a small pocket sized leather cover for Midori from a Canadian leather shop on the East Coast, an leather wrap from Edison for my Rhodia web notebook and a handful of Manufactus covers.

..And I've had them all for years because I barely write at home these days. Though I do go through 3-4 mid size Leuchtturm books at work a year. What makes the habit worse for me is that if I discover a notebook I like I've got to buy a quality leather cover for it. I'll try to follow up with a picture of all of them.

I definitely recommend the OneStar leather cover. It's solidly made and can be customed in terms of leather and stitching colour, or you can add a pen loop and card holder. I've been using mine for over a year daily at work. It's showing wear around the edges but that's just cosmetic and I think it adds some character to the cover.

@bemon

It’s absolutely worth it for being made in the USA. Oh, just saw your Canadian flag. Let me ask: do you see lots of things made in your country? Used to here, but not nearly enough anymore. Hallmark greeting cards, well many of them though not all, are being made in China now.

I’d prefer made in Canada, but it’s usually easier and cheaper to buy American considering volume and cost for material. America has a much larger and broader manufacturing sector so I don’t see as many domestically made items.

At the end of the day Canadian or American quality doesn’t differ in terms of artisional items and if I can’t buy Canadian I’d rather support America who’s economy we still benefit from rather than a completely foreign country.

That said... we are considering a Japanese car this time around to replace our Ford...

Its kind of a North America thing. We share borders, and I think friendly relations. I hope so. On amazon.com I was buying my Mom a pair of jeans. They were from Kovac of Canada. I thought, thats cool, Im all for that.

Then they arrived with tags one with Made in Canada, but a second one had Made in China.

Edit: as for cars, some Japanese brand cars are made in the US. I think Toyota has plants in the American South (maybe Tennessee).

Never heard of that brand. Maybe they’re finished here but made in China?

Yeah, most Toyota’s that we drive in North America are made in Canada and the States. Other markets get JDM production. Same with GM. Actually most North American GM trucks and Cameron’s are made 20 mins away from my place. Likewise a lot of the VW’s on the road on our side of the pond are made in Mexico and not Germany. I work in automotive.

We looked at the Mazda6 and CX-5. Still not sure, was interested in the Malibu but I don’t want a small turbo engine.

Today I sold off a rather large pile of Moleskine notebooks and bought a Blackwing Notebook 5 x 8.25 in 160 pgs, 100 gsm paper. Very light shadowing with FP ink. I think it's a pretty good notebook. And bought a box of Blackwing pearl pencils which are extremely good. (And I still have a pile of new Moleskines in a,box at home).

List or Note phone apps such as Evernote or like have never appealed to me. I need to write on paper.

My secretary is loaded with notebooks like Moleskine and other similar brands, used daily for different To Do lists and other notes.

The better paper, Rhodia, Clairfontaine, Tomoe River, etc. is used for practice as I discover which pen & ink pair best with what paper.

The act of using a good fountain pen on good paper is soothing.
