Which Is The Smoothest Writing Pen In Your Collection

My Black Esterbrook Dollar with a 2668 nib is always a wonderful surprise to pick up and write with....

Its rather difficult to pin down the smoothest though. My Relief 2-L is a wonder, any 3xxx nib is gloriously smooth. Can't go wrong with a 9668 either.

Outside of Esterbrooks, my Sheaffer Imperial II Deluxe's with medium nibs are superb, and my Wahl-Eversharp Skyline because its basically a fire hose is very smooth too.

I have a Majestic lever fill pen with a steel nib that is just incredible.

I guess you can say I am rarely disappointed in the pens I find, even if I do not have any expectation of their functionality.

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

Until last week, I would have mentioned any number of my Waterman and a couple of Cross pens. Just rec'd a Montblanc 146 and it's as smooth as silk. I'm completely enamored!

My fingers are always inky and I'm always looking for something new. Interested in trading? Contact me!

My TWSBI Vac Mini with a medium nib and inked with Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite is the wettest and smoothest writer I have, almost too smooth.

The nib is so smooth and slick on the paper that if I don't control the pace of my writing it starts looking like wild scribble!

Pelikan M800 with a Binder Italifine .9 mm italic.

Dark and Light Blue Pearl Parker Mk I Victory, Newhaven medium nib tuned by Mike Masuyama.

1929 Sheaffer's oversize Black and Pearl Marble Balance tuned by me.

These are smoothest out of the box without any tinkering and smoothing: Pelikan M800med. M200broad, medium, fine. M1000F. Waterman Phileas Med. Kaweco Sport Broad. Pilot74sfm. TWSBI ECO Broad.

Other pens that require a delicate balance and support from my hand and are smooth only because of that: a previous generation Sailor 14k Fine, Lamy2000 Fine.

Of all my pens, the Mk 1 Victory has my favorite nib--smooth and wet with some flexibility but not too much flexibility for normal writing.

Overall, I would have to say the prize for smoothness would be split between Pelikan, Waterman and Edison in my collection - and that's before any nibtweakers get their hands on them, though my Masuyama-tweaked Edison is probably the best. Lamy gold nibs also don't do badly at all, particularly in the larger sizes.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the smoothest of them all? - a Waterman Exclusive with B nib picked up for a song at a flea market, and my Pelikan m600 broad.

Too many pens, too little time!

Montegrappa Fortuna - like glass! I’m having a bit of a problem with it drying out (tried Diamine, iroshizuku, and Waterman ink), so I’ll be sending it in for repair (only a few months old and I don’t have the skills).

Pilot Custom Heritage 91 with the usual #5 nib in Soft Medium. Silky smooth and just the right wetness to bring out the best shading and sheen in inks. This is my daily workhorse pen, it always makes me want to keep on writing and never stop.
