Diwali week: Celebrate the festival of lights with our friends from India and many other countries! (Idea from mehandiratta.)

As usual, don't forget to share with us your choice of ink, your writing, drawing, doodling or anything with the ink in this thread. You can take a photo, make a scan, or even better, write letters and CRV reviews (what is a CRV?) and mail them to the many ink pals here. You are welcome to check back on this thread even when we've gone past this week.

Me newbie; I have a question: Can we propose a mix? I wouldn’t have too many inks in mind for this theme but one; a mix. It’s a simple mix of commonly available inks, yet not something you can buy off the shelf as is, so I'm not sure it fits the purpose here?

Of course you can! Any choice of ink(s) is welcome!

Careful with mixes though - some inks work well together, but there are some stories of (spectacular) mishaps... so whatever you mix, use a separate vial, and small quantities. Also, it would be a good idea to write down what is in which mix, and in what quantities. Then experiment...

(If your newbiness is already past this point, please excuse me, but these are some mistakes I made myself as a newbie, and they can be costly.)

I like it! I remember the time I played with R&K Gold and Silver calligraphy inks on black paper.

Here's my entry for the week;

 

 

 

I have wanted a purple ink, but not a blurple or a fushia, not a washed-out lavender, not a purplish black or a grey, a strong, bright, Prince-style PURPLE. I couldn't seem to see anything exciting in the shops around me.. Instead of going for the internet/ shipping thing, I thought I'd take a shot at it.

I made this mix a couple of months ago, and even had it in a pen for some time. It's a proper's newbie's mix; 2 inks only, of the same brand/ series, primary colors, 50/50 mix (Thank you mhguda for your kind advice! As you see i didn't take risks...)

After at least 3 seconds of deep meditation, I named it Asa Budo

 

Notes:

- Both camera and scanner did a rather poor job. I may try a photo again in daylight tomorrow and edit if needed.

- Like its mommy Yama Budo, Asa Budo is A PIG OF AN INK TO WASH OUT OF A PEN *#@%*$ !! I feel better now, thank you.

- (Edit: I know very little about the Indian culture and apologise if I mis-used, mis-matched any symbol here)

I'm glad for your success, EB. May you enjoy Asa Budo for many iterations of the mix... or just the single 1:1 instance! The fact that you named it indicates to me that you plan on making more...

Thank you mhguda. There may be more mixes.. I'm not a compulsive mixer (yet?), but I'm stubborn, so when I have a color in mind...

 

Newjelan: thank you and hope you'll like the color. It's been in a bottle for a couple of months and has been a very well behaved mix so far, in true Iroshizuku style. No problem at all.

 

Lgsoltek: wow! Lucky Orange is a nice colour but your ink splash steals the show! beautiful!

Ink: Seitz Kreuznach's wonderous Navy Blue (chosen to represent the colour of firework fuse paper . . . only on this watercolour paper it looks nothing like the fuse paper colour )

- easily one of my favourite Blue Blacks. I love how it plays well with any pen and that it comes in a mahoosive, affordable bottle.
